Default Buckle trivia

When the crew cab for the Tractors Artillery Aust. No.6 first arrived I made a point of going through the debris on the floor of same and stored anything of interest. An item of note was the rusted wire buckle in the attached image.
Having now reached the final fit out stage a more detailed study was made of available images from the period. Although blurred it is possible to identify that there were four webbing straps on each corner of the crew cab roof and another two used to tie down the 2 wooden poles strapped to the upper rear deck. All used the wire buckle in question which may be familiar to some but not to others. An LP2 up the road with a number of said straps prompted me to record the attached drawing outlining how the web strap was connected. Now to get a friendly engineering type to make a few! Rod
