Snow...snow....wonderful friggen snow....
Had so much over night it was higher than the sill on the door of my 4x4 truck.... and when I opened the truck door toget the snow broom half a truckload fell on the front seat.
so I persisted and drove to the barn.....about 400 yards.... in four wheel drive....low range.... and usingthe electronic locking rearend....... got stuck twice as soon as I started to turn the front wheels....... hcickened out and droveback.....stuck twice againbut if youlet the rear axle locked and spinyou eventually get traction......... called Grant and told him to stay home...... Now guess who else si getting snowed under.......PHIL Waterman....according to the weather map is getting his fair share...... I refuse to get the tractor/6foot snow blower out until it stops falling this time tomorrow...... it's the heavy stickysnow likely to jam up the jam up the snow blower even with its 45 HP. Pine trees have their branches loaded and bent touching the ground....... not good for possible power failure..... lots of wood for the wood furnace!!!!!!!! Tomorrow is and another day and it is warm in the house. Cheers

You are in Ontario....it will all melt in 3 days. Here in Manitoba, whatever falls will still be there until at least the end of March.
That said, we have been very lucky this year. We have maybe 2 or 3 inches on the ground, and temps have been in the negative single digits. Still a long way to go before winter is over, but every day of sunshine is a day closer to the end. Normally the wife and I would be in Mexico this week for our annual holiday. I am very much missing it this year. Now along will come the Auzzies who will complain about how dry and hot it is this year. |

Not all of Ontario is Toronto, where they call out the army (at least sometimes) when it snows .

I guess it is all a matter of perspective.
Sometimes we need a hand when it snows. But that is when the snow is to the roofline, and your doors both push outwards. That is when you need someone on the outside to tunnel in to your door. I think Derk Derin can tell you about that. I just went to the gc weather pages, and was checking out the forecasts for Ottawa. Amazingly, we do have it better around here (for now). That is supposed to change in a week when we go back to lows of -20. Perspective or not, I don't like -20. But our average temps for this time of year are supposed to be -24 low and -13 for the high. Guess I shouldn't complain. |

I think it was about 4-6 deg here today and sunny. Grass is green and some of my wife’s plants in the yard as still very green. Every day is closer to summer so I’m happy with the winter so far.

40+ F Heavy Rain
Hi Bob
The storm today brought us about 2 inches of rain with temperatures up to 42 F / 5.5 C. Almost all our snow/boiler plate ice has melted. Ice has been our problem this year, the Federal Express truck got stuck on flat ground in the door yard. Driver got front wheels stuck in one set of ruts and rears in another. Tried throwing sand under the wheels but truck had one bald tire, ended up pulling it sideways with plow truck till got him clear of the ruts. Right now what I need is a zamboni to smooth out the ruts, then at least go skating. Actually we could use a series of small SNOW storms. Cheers Phil

Snow and more snow
Hi Guys
Love hearing about the snow. better than sticking your head in the fridge to get some cooling. I asked my dear old dad some years ago when I asked him "Dad since we immigrated to Australia, have you missed the snow" and he said, "Son, I don't miss ta bit and I don't care if I never see any again" "nice to look at when it first comes, But when stops and it all turns to mush". "Nope you can have it" I wouldn't mind experiencing once though. OK guys got to go and ge my shorts and go outside and tan up a bit. Ha Ha. Cheers Tony

Snow and more snow
Hi Bruce and Tony
Bruce; I have read you can get a good tan from snow reflection, I also hear refection is bad for the eyes as well, hence sunglasses. Tony; Living in Lithgow I know you can have both, Snow and bushfires, but mate, I live in a small town in the Adelaide Hills and I have had my fair share of fighting bushfires, more than enough for a lifetime. Like you we all look to the sky on extreme heat days and wait for that smoke smell and fire siren. We have been saved more than once by those Canadian tanker planes dropping their loads on the fires. I hope we don't have to rely on those brave guys again this season. Fingers crossed. Tony

Well we got.....and blew it around.....
It was only 10 inches ( I suspect 12 inches that compacted to 10 inches due to how wet it was.
A real pain to shovel as it weight a ton. 45 Horse power tractor with 6 foot blower was almost stalling the engine and /or the chute would pack up with slush which needs manual clearing....making sure the blower is stopped.......a few year ago a policeman cleaning is driveway got a jam and tried to clean it while running the auger....... got sucked in to the waist........ Now it really looks like Xmas. Cleaning up the two driveway, around the house, around the barn, shelter roof takes almost the full day...... would take the rain from Phil anytime. Cheers
