Default Newby Aussie to CMP's

Hi all
first post but by the looks of it there will be many more.
I recently took possession of a 1942 Chev Blitz from a paddock near Collarenebri NSW.
its in remarkably good condition as each bit I remove turns out to be 'like new' under all the rock hard crud.
everything rubber of course is toast and will need refurbish/replace.
naturally I am looking for parts and information, but will start with a vacuum advance (retard really!) unit for the distributor. sorry its the 216 chev.
I can't find a replacement on the web but will jerry rig something If I have to.
I'll see if I can send a photo of the rig - i'm stoked!
(nah can't send my photos must be too big- i'll work on that)

Default Parts

Hi
NOS 216 parts are plentiful on ebay but postage costs are silly . It's a very common motor bit be aware of changes from 1937 to 1950.

Default Welcome to the wonderful world of CMPs

Hi Bruce

Glad to here another CMP is being brought back to life. Chevrolets are amazingly tolerant of not having a working vacuum pot these distributors also have a mechanical advance.

Which pattern and size truck are you working on?

Cheers Phil

good question re the pattern/type; I have a few serial number plaques below that you may be able to enlighten me just what I have.
Dash plaque:
Model W038
Serial 2844200235S
engine R3784527
(engine block shows PR3782427)

Engine bay firewall:
HOLDENS
Body No 5427K
W1 FRTEND (I think)
Series 4410194

does any of this add up?

second attempt at the photo
I have removed the tray which was about two meters longer than the chassis, clearly not the original. Havn't tried to turn the motor yet, I will pull all a the ancillary bits off first ie Distributer, carby, starter, water pump etc.

Thanks Robert any idea what its original purpose was?

I'd put Ross Prince on speed dial in your phone ((07) 4124 4075), he's in Hervey Bay, Qld, but posts and does show up at various swap meets (when they're on again!).

He is also a member on here as "Lendlease", send him a PM.
