Default Out and About, Cornwall Ontario, December 2015.

While in Cornwall, Ontario visiting with family, I decided to get out for a bit and take some pictures of local memorials. I thought these would be of interest to others on this forum and decided to share. First batch of pics are of the M109 Howitzer memorial located next to the Cornwall Legion, Branch 297. It was placed here in early 2015.
Cheers, Terry.

Pictures of...
•WW2 commemorative mural painted on the side of the Legion building.
•Veteran’s Walk....from the city Standard Freeholder on-line newspaper July 2015...New street banners have been hung on street lights from the Cenotaph to Legion Branch 297 to commemorate Veterans Walk. The banners feature the official poppy of the Royal Canadian Legion on a red and white background. "Veterans Walk is a small gesture of the community's respect and gratitude for the sacrifices of our veterans, and the ongoing good work of the Royal Canadian Legion," Mayor Leslie O'Shaughnessy said in a statement released by the Legion. The walk was created to honour veterans whose sacrifice is recognized on Remembrance Day and as part of preparations for Legion events happening later this summer.

CT-133 memorial at the Cornwall Royal Canadian Air Force Association, Wing 424.

The Canadair CT-133 Silver Star (company model number CL-30) was the Canadian license-built version of the LockheedT-33 Shooting Star jet trainer aircraft, in service from the 1950s to 2005. The Canadian version was powered by the Rolls-Royce Nene 10 turbojet, whereas the Lockheed production used the Allison J33.

Very nice Terry.

The good people of Cornwall are very lucky to have so many memorials.

The M114 howitzer shown is 155mm. I believe they also had the designation C1 sometime in the 60s.

And of course the Lynx was never called a M113 1/2.

Certainly not in Canadian service, however the jury is still out if FMC used the M113-1/2 designation on their first offerings of the C&R.

Terry

Thanks for taking the time to post them. Sure a lot better to see the vehicles on display than going through the smelter or as range targets. It at least shows that the Canadian public is appreciative of the CF's service. Twenty years ago, our public perception was not in favorable light.

I always feel it a bit of a shame to see the M109 memorials painted in the single colour, as if they were some kind of "B" vehicle. I only ever saw them in the NATO cam during my years working with them.
