Default Hong Kong Winnipeg Grenadiers sites?

Off to Hong Kong in a week for a vacation. Anybody have any thoughts on locations for Winnipeg Grenadiers memorials or military must see's in the big city. Also going to Beijing for a weekend. Avaition museums? Staying very close to the Dec. 9 1941 "Gin Drinkers Line". Any travel thoughts and places of interest would be appreciated. Rob Fast Manitoba Canada

Rob, try visiting the Chinese Army Museum: http://www.freehomepages.com/bdk/Beijing.htm
If you go there, take a few pics of the carriers (Wasp! Oxford!) and Sherman tanks, please.

Regards,
Hanno

Default Greeting from Hong Kong

Just visited the Stanely Bay and Sai Wan Military Cemetery's. Also saw the Winnipeg Grenadiers "Osborne" , memorial in Hong Kong Park. What a place! I thought London had a lot of people! Cheers Rob

Default Wasp flame spitter, Beijing

No English being spoken here, or signs to help you out. The city has a long way to before they are tourist friendly for the Olympics.

Default Wasp Carrier in China...

Hi there

My first thought was, why in the world is there a Wasp IIC in Beijing.

Then I recalled that NAC photo Bill Gregg used in 'Blueprint for Victory' of a Canadian officer showing a Wasp to a Nationalist Chinese Army officer..

How many carriers did we send over there?

Steve

Rob,

Great pictures! Any chance of e-mailing me some larger sized ones?

As for provenance of the Wasp Carrier and Sherman tanks, the general view is these were captured in Korea.
Although I've heard something about a US Marine force landing in China shortly after WW2 - does anyone have more info on this?

Thanks,
Hanno

Pictures of the Wasp Flame Thrower Carrier at the Army Museum at Beijing, China, courtesy of Richard Stephenson, and hosted by the G503 Album.

Enjoy!
