Default 1938 GMC 4x4

Does anyone have a copy of Bart's HISTORICAL MILITARY VEHICLES DIRECTORY please? I am trying to find the Model Number of the 1938 GMC 4 x4 trucks...Bart mentions 4929 for the '38 6 x 6 on P. 10 WHEELS & TRACKS 25..."(see AVD, page 330)" he said...which I assume meant HMD? The British WD Trialled a '38 GMC 4 x 4 tractor and I need to clarify which model.

Thanks!

Hi David

Not sure which model GMC you are after but on page 364 of Barts book there is a GMC AFKX-804 cab over but these were supplied in 1941. The only other items i can see are on page 344 a 1936 model 4272 but i have never seen any ref to that one in the UK and the later AFKX range which the british army were issued with

Does Bart mention the engine, etc. for the 4272 please Les? I think that they were Chevrolet-based.

I guess the truck should be something like the one shown below, although it is mentioned in older Bartīs book as used by Cavalry, but it looks like quite ordinar GMC COE tractor of which, I would say, plenty were made.
Happy searching, Jan

Yes David it is a 6 cyl 76 bhp Chevrolet 206 cid ohv and is mentioned as a conversion of the 1936 Chevrolet RB. I would certainly love to see a photo of one as trialled by the british. the photos only small but i will try to scan it for you
