Default Important anniversaries

Just curious, did anyone hear or see or read much (or any) reference to this past weekend being the anniversary of VE Day?

I didnt, and that seems a shame.

Default No I haven't but something interesting on the web

Hi Mark

Had not seen anything on the local TV so I searched their web site, nothing. So then I did a Google Search even restricting the search to the last week the number of hit was huge, and something strange was happening as I watched the number of real-time results was growing steadily as I watched, so even though the news editors may not have noticed people have.

Cheers Phil

Angry How soon we forget

I felt it was entirely overlooked.

No media coverage.............not even a passing mention. Only place it was shown was on the cheap calendar in my office.

Shameful.

Keep your eyes and ears open on 6th June, and see the same thing happen.

We should be bloody grateful there even WAS a VE Day. Try asking a school kid what VE means and see what answer you get. Mind you, I remember when we commemorated 'VJ' Day, now it's "VP".

I have 2 dear old friends who were British Army & involved in D-Day landings, and they are always happy to see evidence someone still remembers, cause many don't!

Default VE Day event

Here, in the small village of Chatsworth, south of Owen Sound, ON, we have a VE Day Banquet on the Saturday nearest 8 May.

We had about 65 attending, which included some high school students who did a power point presentation of their trip to Holland last year, and an Air Cadet who won a public speaking contest sponsored by our Legion branch, gave his speech about the Canadian Cadet Movement.

For a small village, I'd say it was a damned impressive event.

More and more, we have to reach out and teach the younger generations about that which the school systems either ignore or sneer at.

Great that this event took place. possibly similar events took place in Legions around the country.

BUT, publicly? in the newspapers, radio and TV, I saw and heard nothing... as far as I know, im the only one who said anything publicly.
