Welded hull

Hello can anyone help

A friend of mine has a welded hull carrier anyone know of any others in the UK or has anyone got any good photos of one, It was a good lower hull and track guards but only had 2inch of top armoure all the way round, he made the sides up but the bulkhead and some bits were a bit of a guess.
After seeing mine hes trying to make it correct but we think this is the only one in the uk that we have found so far.....

Martyn i thought that later mk2's and mk3's were all welded tubs ? i would have thought these would be more prevelant than mk1's, just goes to show

any photos would be helpfull, I will take some photos of his when i next see it.
this one was cut down and used as a pumping station in a quary, it looks like a mk1 from the rear as it has the two holes near the diff but its welded? nice to see a welded one after only reading about them

What is the removeable front plate(glasis plate) like?

Hi Thanks for the photo the front plate i think is the same as that in the photos but carnt be sure as not had a propper look at it whats the bulkhead and look like and the air boxes as these are the parts we are looking to get made again to be more inkeeping, at the moment there is no engine covers and air boxes on her

If its the same, it never had any air ducts She's an AOP No? MkIIIw, Built by Ford at Dagenham, probably. I would love to see any details of her. Is there a "T" number, or ID plate?
I am looking for the details of the observers (gunners) shutter. the plate, the profile etc of the frame/guides, Locking mechanism, and the handle. Cheers.

this carrier had been cut off two inches above the welds around the side armour couldnt tell you if it was a op or not, my friend is trying to find a few photos of it when he got it as a pumping rig.
At the moment my friend has just built it back up as best he could to get it to look like a carrier. as soon as get back to see it will see if any numbers have been stamped on anywhere ?

A few years ago I found the remains of a carrier still being used in a quarry as a pump. The armour had been cut and a big water pump was instaled. The cement works still used this machine daily until about 2006. It was yellow and had the British worsley wheels ( round holes ). If this is the same carrier I have a video and some stills. I'll dig them out.

i know the one my friend had it too that was a mk2 he sold it and now its in a very poor state now it fell in to the hands of a carrier wantabe how should i say he F@*ked it about not knowing what he was doing, he thort a carrier was just a box on tracks and an easy project but unlike a jeep you carnt just pick up the phone and order the parts or scank other peoples take off parts. it would still make a nice carrier but would need all new frame, floor, and bulkhead he cut them all out with out taking any measurements then sold it to another chap i have found it again the chap who purchased my 2nd carrier has it iam thinking of asking if he wants me to restore it back to a propper hull for him. will take some photos of it when i nxt go over to see him.
Anyway if your in lincoln or near by drop in i owe you a carrier drive hahahaha been a long time since beltring mate lol

Hi Martyn, That Carrier photo CD I sent you last year had some pics of a restored welded hull carrier on it, I remember seeing this odd looking carrier on a model making picture reference site. I posted you convoy bracket today.

ok now iam getting confused whats the diffrance between a mk1 no 2 and a mk1 no 3 welded hull, is a mk2 the same as a rivetted carrier with airboxes or or not could any one shed some light on this looked in nigels book not a lot of help on this one

The No.1, No2, No3. all refer to the size/model of Ford V8 motor.
I believe the Mark III refers to the Welded hull construction ( and the associated changes i.e. air ducting) introduced at the same time.
The Armoured O.P.(observation post)MarkIII, was by October 1942,identified as being an incorrect nomenclature, and was re designated as;
Armoured O.P. No. 1, Mark III (W)
they are essentially the same shape as a rivetted hull Mk1 (Same sand guards. No side steps,but altered to suit the A.O.P. role)
