Default Ottawa General Meeting

Seems to me that it is about time we had another Ottawa meeting of the Sgt's Mess. I can't remember half the lies that I told and only some of those that were told to me :

Rob, I'm not entirely sure you NEED any more beer, but being a man after me own heart, I'll give ye the benefit of the doubt...

Looks good to Yappy and me, but need some advance warning please. We DO have much to discuss and it would be good to see you all again.

Default He is back....

Glad to see the Haw-maw-rikans have decided to send Alex back to Ottawa......

Now for the BB at B......

Aiming for a good time on Saturday October 1st ......

.......basically 2m to whatever time you falloff your stool.

Will have some cold beer and burgers........ Rob and I can show you our toys and .... behind the barn......I will have a large bucket of manure for some of you to shoot at if you are so incline.

After some senseless conversations around the barn we can migrate to the covered deck....closer to the fridge..... for some further philosophical conversations.

Will need to know who is coming so I can decide how many burgers to make... the more people the smaller the meat patties.... just kidding.

Will publish a decent map so that no one gets lost...plenty of parking....... I am located approx. 25 miles East of Ottawa.

One topic of conversation will be how do we make this better and bigger next year.... not to compete with the CC event but to provide an Eastern Ontario flavor/opportunity...... one advantage is we have the Larose forest sandy trails within a mile from my place... lots of place to run and over heat our vehicles....hehehe....15 acres field to camp in at the back of my property.....etc... being in a rural area anything on wheels with a red farmer's triangle can take to the roads......

Hang in there, Summer is not yet over until the fat lady sings on Oct 1st !!!!

Bob

uh, beer?

Bob has hit on an interesting idea - an Eastern Ontario CMP/MV meet. A good chance to drive the LaRose Forest trail,
bring out the old tools and parts (yeah, Jeff, I can hear you chortling from here) and do some horse trading.

I'll up the ante - I will have some old/spare parts for trade and if necessary for sale at this meet.

Alex, any special deals on manuals for the event?

Clive? - same question as above as it relates to books.

Mike (Gunner) - any plans on dragging a boomer out to Chateau Carriere?

Greg Wright - any plans on dragging out some of your wares? I have a dog house for trade (looking for more sections of modular tents)...etc

Bob - got to ask - is this a STAG evemt?

I suggest that we all contact the locals via our personal networks and make this meet something to remember.

Out of towners may have to hole up in a local hotel or pitch a tent for some pioneer camping. So, Bob, let me know what you need in the ways of supplies - I'll kick in.

STAG !!!! Hell no.... that would be most politicaly incorrect...... anybody can bring girls.... heck.... even your wives.....

Just kidding...... this is a first time out and everybody is welcome.

Hoping this will be the start of something new..... we have had the CC now we can have the BB... and if we keep drinking we will need the AA.

Rob... most of all I may need a hand getting things ready...... we can discuss later this week.

So who is up for it???

If I still have a car at that time (it's up for sale right now -- anyone want a loaded 2002 Sebring with only 28K on the clock?) we'll be there. I'll have some stuff as well, bits such as I posted separately, earlier. Can we bring Karmen's pet raccoon?

We'll need a place to crash, though, at the very least I have to find a tent. Any suggestions? Anyway, this sounds really good. The CC events have evolved into what I think will be a long-standing tradition, and I hope this will too. MLU supports you, Bob!

Default Reply to..... Mike and Geoff

Sorry to hear you can't make it Mike..... was hoping to show you my toys and ask a few questions..... but we will have other occasions. Will plan something with Rob.

Geoff... don't sell the car until Oct 3rd when you get back home.

Sorry I can't offer to put you up and you are a brave couple if you consider tenting on Oct 1st unless you use a lot of antifreeze....

Will be better organized next year for sleeping over.....

Raccoons are welcomed..... been a good season so far got seven for seven this year...... seven bullets for seven raccoons. With the price of ammo I may get them to line up next year to save time and ammunition. I usually have to dig out the bullets out of the deck floor the next day.... unfortunetaly the mushrooms get to bent to be used again. Very accommodating them raccoon. The bullet goes right through them, the thick fur contains the blood with no mess to clean.... and they go die under a log somewhere at the back 40 and I don't have to even bury them.

Now skunks are another stinky story.... never been able to shoot one that doesn't pi** itself to death..... exception made for the time I hit one with the 30-06...... but the report scares the sh** out of the neighbours...... in the middle of the night.

Let me know if you can make it down. Geoff...... I have a special receipy for marinating burger patties I would like to try.

I don't mind sleeping outdoors in October, have done a hell of a lot worse in Europe and in the service, but I am reliably informed (by a slap on the head) that a certain other party won't. Have to go for Plan B. I'll keep you posted.

We can tell raccoon stories at your place, but in past they have been great sport... damned shame you can't shoot the little buggers in Toronto...

Q: How do you make a rodent turn inside-out?
A: Use a larger calibre...

(hint - used to hunt groundhogs with an M-1 Garand)

Arthritis, tendonitis and fibromyalgia mixed with sleeping outside in the cold? I don't think so ... bad combo and makes for premature rigormortis (like before I'm dead yet)

That's okay, I won't tell anyone how you fed and petted Nipper the raccoon and enjoyed that ... nor will I mention the cheeseburgers you bought them once (one each, one each for you and I)

Default Side bar visit

Well, if its getting this complicated why don't we get some synergy going with a parade in Stittsville and stop at the S&P and then beer at Bob's... I just don't want to have any of the old girls (not you Miss Yappy... the RATs (rusty army trucks)) out on the roads in the dark... getting too used to headlights that actually light up some of the road... I know, spoiled by modern horseless carriages!

Let me know what you all think.

I'm wearing my frying pan protective device!

Default BBQ at Bob's or BB0

Thanks, Bob and Joyce for hosting this event. This event fills in a gap here in Eastern Ontario/Western Quebec.

My family enjoyed the time in the country and the wife got to see my "Metal Mistress" up close - her verdict: Some ulgy...

For those who could't attend, you missed a great time at Bob's Cat House - 11 warm and fuzzy residents ready to make you feel better. The BBQ was excellent, the hosts wonderful and the warm fall night topped off a great afternoon.

I am looking forward to next year, or BB1. Maybe, just maybe, I might have the HUP on the road...(a man has got to have a dream...)

Here is a picture of the event at Bob's

More photos at Bob's barbeque
Thanks to Bob and Joyce (and the cats) for hosting us. Unfortunately I couldn't stay for very long but will plan better next year.
