Just been checking through the photos I took this summer of the Dunkirk filmset in Redcar and spotted this - looks like a 10 cwt GS No1

Hello Nick,

Missed this reaction before, but it looks like you have another mortar trailer for spares.

Green Greetings Hendrik

Default 10 cwt trailer

Hi hendrick

Yes indeed, I have finally begun the reconstruction of this trailer, In the end the blue trailer listed seemed the best bet, the black was was very poor but has given up enough bits to make a complete unit... I hope. I wonder if any reader may be near to ursel in a couple of weeks to snap a heap of pics of the 10cwt trailer that shows up there? I'm looking for details of how the woodwork is fitted and also all the little tie down brackets, tail gate etc... Cheeky but I thought I should ask.... Sadly I cannot make it to WAW this year, I have to do a family holiday but am allowed a visit to Tanks in the town on the way home!
regards

There is one easy thing about the mortar trailer, there is no tailgate at the back, but every good side has it bad sides, it is at the front.

Hendrik

PS. PM me your e-mail adress, I can send you some pictures, it may take a time, but they will come.

Default ready for welding up

its had several cross members removed at some time long ago, but the second trailer has given up enough bits to reconstruct it.

Nick,

Maybe Hendrik will be able to help you allready. Anyway, I will be attending Wings and Wheels and would be happy to take the details shots of the trailer for you.

Please let me know if you think of any other details apart from the details you mentioned, which I should picture.

Default Ursel

Hi Alex
thanks for that. I have had the HUA over there for the last couple of years and not managed to take the pictures I now find I need! I think I can see how the metalwork was put together by piecing together the parts of the two trailers. What I'm not sure of is the woodwork, and attached hard ware, in particular the catches, rope loops, (all missing) andy additional iron mongery, and the wooden lip around the top edge.. Also what kinds of fateners bolts etc are used, I imagine the top lip is counterbored coach bolts, but I'm not sure.. Any help would be reatly appreciated. I'm really sorry not to be going over this year, I love the show, it remonds me of UK shows years ago before things became so hectic!
kind regards
nick

Nick,

No problem. I will try to cover all the details for you.

I remember seeing a C8 on the show some years ago and just realised it was yours! It's a pity you won't be there wit the HUA and/or C8.

Hi Alex
Thanks for that , The C8 and the HUA have both been to WAW a time or two. Living near the port of Hull in UK, Ursel is actually quite close when you measure the driving time.. I hope to be there again next year if I can. Family holidays have to come first this time, I'm sure they'll enjoy Normandy :-)
kind regards

Default trailers

Hi nigel
The two I am attempting to reconstruct (as one) both came via ebay of all places and at nominal cost, collection actually cost more! They both originated in the same area of the midlands around Stoke on Trent. I suspect that at some time some where like Watsons of Stone or Hamptons of Newcastle probably disposed of a lot. Interestingly I am originally from that area and remember seeing trailers like these about the city, unfortunately at that time I only had eyes for Jeeps!
incidentally do you have any spec on towing equipment for carriers? or fabrication of same??
kind regards
nick

Cat's-being what they are, it's probably duped the trailer owner into either feeding or stroking it. And he didn't get the chance to get past the primer coat!

(or it just knocked over the paint tin because it would be funny)

Nigel,

Here's one advertised for sale in The Netherlands. It was advertised last January, might still be for sale? Asking price is 750 Euros.

Cheers,
Hanno

Default id-plates

Our restaration is going well. Next week the frame will be restored.
Today I managed to get the last id-plate of. As far I can see, I have two out of three. Does anyone have a picture of the third id-plate. It should be on the side of the frame.

Here are the two id-plates.

Cheers,
Arjan

another found on our 10cwt trailer were these.

These were used to guide the wires through the frame. Has anyone seen these before?

Cheers,
Arjan

Default model

Model looks very good, they only made one mistake, as it looks like a motar trailer. When I look good the front opens also and the square mudgaerds, the rear of the trailer schouldn't open.

I recently discoverd the I have two different rims for my trailer.

This is the one that came with the trailer. Because there was only one I searched for another.

This one I found. I´ve marked the differences.

I know there were many kinds of these rims. The Hillman Light Utility had one with three holes, the Austin Light Utility had four holes. But these have six holes, and still they are different.
Has someone any idea?

Cheers,
Arjan
