Default CMP 3G1 Ambulance body parts needed.

Hello Everyone,
Well after finding a woman 7 years ago, getting engaged 6 years ago and getting married 5 years ago then fixing the house up so she'll stay has taken up all my time and my Ford CMP ambulance project has been tarped for a few years now but with the final renovations of the house done and just celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary I think she's going to keep me and now it's safe to say I can return to my CMP Ambulance project!
I have collected most of what I need to restore my CMP 3 ton Ford but now I would like to start finding the rest of what I am missing or replace damaged parts so when the time comes, I can complete the Ambulance body so if anybody has or know of the parts I am needing I would greatly appreciate it!
So here is what I have;

The body at one point was lifted off by throwing chains through the window openings and in doing so damaged all of the window frames and glass frames so I would need to find straight window glass frames for the front window and both side windows. The rear door window frames are ok.

The interior ceiling dome light housings are there but I need to find the 2 lenses. In the drawings they look like they have squared edges. I'm also missing the water tank, ceiling fan and the lower half of the 2 plasma bottle storage rack.

I have the SB 23 Ambulance body parts manual that lists the parts numbers and a couple good photo's of the interior of the body.

All of the rear interior and exterior door handles are missing and the side tool box doors are either missing or have broken padlock hardware. I have a photo of one side that has an original padlock hasp that is broken to see what I am looking for.

A few other items I need to find are the 2 operating arm crank handles to raise the stretcher racks up, the front panel of the interior heater housing and the folding rear steps.
I'm also looking for the blackout side curtains for the interior windows. The part numbers for those are listed in the parts list in my photo's.
Thank you for any help with parts for my project.
Regards,Derk

Hey Derk.

Curious as to what the original interior colour was for these ambulance bodies.

Hanno, Egbert and I went to view an Ambulance earlier this year, which was silver inside the body. Doors were body colour on the inside. The truck in question was unrestored, low mileage, ex french Navy.

I think I see the same silver colour in Derk's pictures. Also, in black and white pictures it's pretty difficult to see the difference between white and silver. In the pic Robert posted, to me, the interior looks to be silver, while the stretcher frames could maybe be white, or silver reflecting the sun/sky(?)

Sorry Robert; I didn't know you had one in the yard, I thought you were just basing it on the black and white picture.

In that case it seems there were at least two different interior colours used; silver and white.

I also noted there are differences in the position of the seat and water tank in these bodies, but haven't checked Clive's book yet to see if it's in there. Sometimes the water tank is left and the seat on the right, sometimes it's mirrored. At first I though the factory pictures might have been mirrored, but judging from the axle this doesn't seem to be the case

I just went outside to the Ambulance box and at first glance it has a Silver paint job inside but looking closer underneath the silver paint you can see there is white paint. From there it is the thin Red pressboard that the interior is sheeted with. So I would say the interior was originally white from the factory. At some point my box was painted silver, both inside and outside so somebody wanted to give it a new paint job to clean it up!
The inside of the doors are painted the same green colour as the outside of the vehicle. The doors when swung all the way open could be secured by a lower latch on the bottom of the ambulance body and held to the side of the body.

As for the different interior layouts of the bodies according to my manuals the ambulance body styles 3F1 and 3G1 had the blanket locker with water tank on top at the Left of the front of the body with the attendants seat on the right side up front.

The Ambulance body 3G2 had the exterior water heater mounted to the right side of the body so they reversed the layout so the water tank was on the right front corner of the box.

The 3G1 ambulance had a recirculator, (whatever that is?)
I see in the picture that the water tank is square. That may have a special water system?

Derk,

Thanks for clarifying the different interior layouts! Very interesting stuff.

Attached are 3 pictures of the Ambulance Hanno and I viewed; It has 576 miles on the clock and as far as I know it's still for sale.

Thanks guys. The question about interior colours came up on a model building site. The answer was a light beige colour, however that may be true for British built ambulances, but clearly not for the Canadian built ones.

I had a feeling you were asking because of the IBG kit. I also have it here....I am hoping to use as much of the kit parts for the the chassis, running gear and body, and replace the wheels for 16inch ones and use my own cab. Still the kit was cheap enough for a box full of potential conversion material.

Thanks for posting the interior photo’s of the ambulance body. I sure would like to find that water tank! I see it also has the oxygen rack on the ceiling. Another nice piece.
I have since found the ceiling fan for my interior and my buddy who is a machinist made me a couple of stretcher crank folding handles so I can now crank the stretcher racks up and down.
I was hoping to get a start on my Ford CMP ambulance this year especially being retired now but it’s true, life kicks into high gear when you don’t have to go to work anymore!
I did manage to get my stretcher jeep running yesterday after sitting in the shop for 4-5 years.
Now I have to work on getting the Bren gun carrier running!
The work never ends!
