ACCO's
As some of you know I run the Registry of Ex Military Land Rovers website (www.remlr.com). With increasing interest from members in ACCO's and their close working relationship with land rovers i've decided to add a small ACCO section to REMLR.
So basically i'm after any information that is out there from dates, changes, numbers, photos, anything really. I've got some information and info, but more is always welcome. Richard

I was up at Maydena the other day, and in the middle of town in a builders yard was a ACCO.
Did not look in bad condition, but the yard was locked and I could find no one around. Still registered Do you know about this one. Regards Col

Hi Richard
I have a few Vietnam pics on my site: There is a page here, and there's even a Landy pic here.

Col, I don't know of that one myself (although my mother grew up in maydena), but somebody from the Military Vehicle Group Tasmania may well know about it as they are southern based.
Better not tell one of the guys in my club (Defence Transport Heritage of Tas), he is an ACCO tragic, although he only has a M37 at the moment. Keith, I saw that you had a few photos, do you mind if I use a few of them?

Easy done
Now to find the information, because other than what is held in these pages on MLU, there isn't a lot out there (part of the reason i'm doing it I guess!)

Book
Iveco published a book in Australia last year which was a history of the ACCO which was distributed to dealers. I'd recommend having a chat to your nearest Iveco dealer to see whether he has a copy.

It's a Mk.3 not a Mk.4 as far as I can tell, but it would be an excellent project if the rust hasn't got to too much of it. Pity i've got enough projects for now, an acco would be an excellent addition to my collection!

I thought that i'd share this photo that was sent to me today of a prototype ACCO on trials with the ADE.
I know that the Blitz had this configuration, but I never even heard that the ACCO trialed it as well!!

Being as the photo is from the 1960 ambulance prototype trials, and the bulk of the No.5 Trailers were built much later in the 60's, i'd say that the trailer was in fact a prototype as I can't imagine a No.5 doing that with the chassis it has.
Also, the book that the iveco dealers have (or at least what I presume is the same one about the acco's) is on it's way to me now from pitstop books.

A good job you have done there lad. To what some would think boring, they deserve to have a place in the history books.
They were the work horses for the army for many years. Did not the Air Force have some. Regards Col

The air force has always been a tough one to trace vehicel history. Same problem with the land rovers, we know almost all the vehicles that the Army used, but very little about the RAAF.
Same story with the acco's, although i've not seen anything of the RAAF using them, I think the standardisation of vehicles only happened with the introduction of the Land Rover 110 Perentie and Unimog.

Keith, on this page,
http://www.imagecontrol.com.au/oldcmp/vietland_1.html you have a photo of a 6x6 acco crane, turns out it's actually a drilling rig.

Well the registration numbers are slowly finding their way onto the ACCO chapter
http://www.remlr.com/ACCO/ on the ACCO ARN page. Mostly Mk.4's so far, but there is a lot of work in transcribing them onto the website from photos of the ARN books.
