Reasons being; 1/ superstructure supports on naked pic come to outer track edge where as the first photo, the mock up hull is within the tracks. 2/ The first pic shows what looks like the drivers vision port at the drive axle end, where as the naked pic shows drivers position opposite to that. There may be other things as well, not spotted. Richard |

It also appears to have a driven axle both ends (!)

I think the two photos are of different beasts.
The second one has the the angle iron brackets to hold what would be a tarditional style of carrier body the top one does not have these. My guess is the second one is a naked 3inch Australian mortar carrier, of which I have the remains of a manual for one. Reasons for my guess: Bones of a normal looking rear body. Engine is on the left of the driver. As for the first one, whats with the drive sprockets at each end? Must be fun to drive. Could is possibly be a German product made of captured Carrier parts. Reason for saying this Angled body is along lines of German Armoured cars style. The sedan looks Mercesdes like. The first one is a normal Loyd carrier chassis with a mock up body on it. The second is as Kev says Its an Aust. carrier the particular model of which escapes me, but that drive line set up with the motor on one side and the transfer case etc is a give a way.

Just to explain. A Loyd carrier has a driving front axle with rear engine. they have brakes at both ends and so a sprocket is fitted at both ends. (if the track ran around a wheel, it would just slip when braking)
The second carrier has Aust pattern brake drums and actuators, also Aust steering wheel etc etc etc.

The Angle Iron framework looks reminiscent of the "Tracked Truck, 1 ton". Could this be one version in the development stages utilising the running gear of the 2pdr/3in mortar carrier (which were obsolete by the time development on the Tracked Truck came around)? The Tracked Truck was eventually a LHD vehicle with the engine and gearbox on the right side of the driver and driving a straight driveshaft to a Chev axle from a C15. Could this change be a result of the very impractical gearshift as fitted to the 2pdr/3in carriers?
