Default Brake Adjusting Tool

I borrowed a Brake adjusting tool from a friend as I thought I would make a couple up but looking closer at it I have a question that someone here might answer. In the parts book the tool is listed as CTL 4031 and when out of stock use CTL 4031B, The tool I borrowed off my friend is marked CTL 4031C FM Co 45 and it has a 3/8 square stock attached close to the end of the tool. Question is what is that for as I don't see a purpose for it ???

Is it for attaching the torque wrench?

Default does it?

Does it fit the drain plugs under the differentials?

Dave,

CTL 4031C was for the Windsor Carrier. The extra square protrusion was for the drain plug in the rear axle (Windsor Carriers used an Eaton 2-speed rear axle).

You can still carry on using this as a template for your reproduction as the other details are the same as CTL 4031B (just omit the square protrusion).

Here are a couple of images of a CTL 4031 B and CTL 4031 C together.

In FWC-02, Carrier, Windsor Mark 1*, Illustrated Spare Parts List, the correct nomenclature for the tool in your possession is:

CTL 4031 C, Wrench - brake adjuster and axle drain plug.

I had a few members ask about me about the tool I am looking to get made up at the local fab shop from the original one posted here less the square key stock to see what the cost of making up some. If I can make up at least 6 the cost will be $35.00 per wrench + the ride, Let me know if anyone would like one as I am getting ready to place an order in the next couple of days. These would be water jet cut and bent by the fab shop.

Hard to go wrong for $35. Put me down for one. Any chance they will be ready for the Easter Gunshow in Calgary?

Ok I have everyone down that has posted here and off line and the order will be placed tomorrow. Rob if they are done by next week before the show I will bring it down but he could not confirm that they will be done by that date but will try. Thanks all for your order and will notify everyone here once they are done.

Well I got the tools back from the fab shop today and I am quite happy with the result. There will be a little dressing up to be done as they were water cut and the edges are a little sharp but I cleaned mine up with a flapper disc on my grinder and it worked just fine and they have a good fit on the brake adjuster end. So all of you that had placed and order with me if you could give me your mailing address I will then get you a total with the shipping.
