Default Sexton Gun Position Officer

Looking for info/pix of a Sexton Gun Position Officer SP. These were Sextons with the gun removed.

Clive,

I'm not aware of those... are you sure they weren't converted Priests serving as Armoured Command Vehicles? I've seen many pics of those.

Perhaps we should have a word with Herb Danter to see what he remembers.

The Sexton GPO is listed in Chamberlain and Ellis as followers:

“Sexton GPO: Introduced in late 1943 (the prototype was designated “G” vehicle), this was a Sexton with gun removed and extra equipment added for gun position officers (GPO) of Sexton batteries. It was fitted with extra radio, map tables, extra telephone cables, and an extra Tannoy unit.”

There is also a film clip showing the Sexton GPO. I think that it is contained on the video “A War of Their Own” produced by the War Amps. It is in the section where they are describing the 8th Field Regt (SP) RCA of 5CAD, and shows the final parade of the unit at the end of the war in Holland.

David Fletcher's article "Sexton SP Guns" in Wheels & Tracks magazine issue No. 53 briefly mentions the Sexton GPO and shows one picture. Do you have that issue?

Pounds Yard in Portsmouth, UK, still had the remains of one in 1985...

Default GPO

Clive,

I have one photo of a Sexton GPO from a 1970s vintage issue of AFV News. I will see if I can find and check for a PAC Number for you tonight.

It is the only photo I have seen of the Sexton GPO. Otherwise, I have heard that Chillwell had a publication for it, and I found that the Pakistani's had one listed on a Gov't disposals website some time ago.

Cheers!

Dana

Thanks Dana.
If the PAC number is not available could you e-mail a 300DPI scan to my home address?
BTW, I sent an e-mail to Barry via your site a week ago. Do you know if he received it?
