Default M38A1 Cdn2 Throttle Linkage questions..............

'Afternoon All,

Our museum's M38A1 Cdn2 Jeep has been driving us nuts with running issues after some much needed work was done on the steering assembly, and then the fuel tank and supply. The latter is causing us no end of grief, after we replaced the jury rigged carburetor and air filter with the correct parts. Once the vehicle has warmed up and starts working "under load" - going up hills, etc, it coughs, sputters, and dies, and has to be towed back - twice!!!!

One of the things we have to do is finish connecting all the correct breather lines and hand-throttle linkages, and fabricate the final linkage to the now correct carburetor, to replace the temporary linkage we have to use. Would anyone have a photo or clear diagram of this final linkage (which also has the hand-throttle connected to it)?

Many Thanks in advance.

Sincerely,

Chris Preston

Here are a couple of diagrams from the manual. Hope they help a bit.

The Jeeps are very prone to rust particles causing them to flood out. I recommend a proper inline fuel filter in the rubber line between the frame and the fuel pump. At the same time, remove the top portion of the fuel pump (about 10 screws I think?) and clean out any particles that are in there.

If you lift the top off the carb, the rust will show as a very fine red sand in the bottom of the fuel bowl. It is incredible how the very minute particles can cause so much problem. The coarse fuel filter in the tank will not catch the fine particles.

'Evening Wayne and Rob,

Many Thanks for your replies - it helps. The one piece we're missing is the Throttle Linkage Rod that connects the Upper Bell-crank to the Carburetor's Throttle Valve Lever, and the piece to connect the Throttle Linkage Rod to the Throttle Valve Lever. Make sense?

Would either of you have an image or photo of what this piece looks like?

Cheers,

Chris

The linkage you need is quite common and should be readily available. Try some of the parts sources in Canada or online. One example with the bell-crank bracket found here:

I think the linkage in the link above is the one that goes down past the manifold.

The linkage section that goes over the valve cover is what I understand you to be looking for. Found here:
