Default M-series quantities produced in Canada

While putting away the duplicate book collection here in the museum, I ran into an article that gave quantities for the M-series. Some of the later numbers don't quite jive with the known numbers wrt the Jeeps and M151A2s, but are pretty close.

So here is what is listed:

Ford Of Canada Jeeps: M38 qty 1900, M38A1 qty 750

Chrysler of Canada: M37 qty 2929 (may include the M152 and ambulances.)

GM of Canada: M135 deuce and variants qty 5.428

Jeep of Canada : M38A1Cdn2 qty 800 (incorrectly listed in the artcle as being 1970/71 production)

M151A2 qty 932 (vs the traditionally accepted 935)

Hi Rob,
Title or author of the article? An official document? I believe the 750 figure for the "M38A1" was interpreted from a handwritten notation on a 1952 Ford of Canada month-end M38 production sheet (which noted 2135 M38's). The Dec. 1952 entry is a hand-written notation: "750 Jobs Built Dec. 1952 & Jan. 1953". This must refer to M38A1 since the November 1952 entry notes that M38 production ended Nov.27, 1952 and M38A1 F-200041 had been produced by end of November. I interpret the entry as inferring that M38A1 production started Nov.11, 1952. So the question is a total of 750 M38A1 or 41+ 750= 791 M38A1? Further handwritten notes says "see Jan. 1953 records. Last 224 jobs with short dipstick" but nobody has come up with a copy of the 1953 records yet. Also a reminder that the date that Ford built a vehicle does not correspond to the "Delivered Date" on the serial data plate. The delivered dates on the data plates lagged past the production date, often for weeks or months. ...... Brian

Brian

The data comes from a Lore bulletin no 2/81 (1982). The article, titled "Forty years of Military Truck Design and Production in Canada" was written by Mr LH Wolff and Major GW Stephanson as compiled by Col MC Johnson (the honourary Col of the LORE/EME trades back then).

If I had to bet, I would say the data was from military sources rather than from Ford of Canada, as these guys would have access to the military records of the day.

The first paragraph also gives a number of 2600 for the MLVW. That number may have varied by the end of production. At that time, the contract had jsut been signed (March of 1981).

Hi guys. Google "Kaiser Jeep of Canada, 1959-69" page for more details on production runs. Though the numbers there may be somewhat conflicting as well.

I have been looking for information about the CFR/CAR number for my 1953 M38A1. Regarding Brian's question in the above post, I believe the answer is: There were at least 791 M38A1's built. I say this because my jeep is serial number F-200024.
Im still trying to match this jeep up with a CAR number. There is nothing stamped on the frame that I have found... yet (could be buried under the paint).
