Default Mystery parts help.

Hello,

I've picked up a job lot of military wrapped spares. Some british and some american, and lots without lables!!! Can anyone recognise anything.

I'll start with an easy one, pistons all wrapped in grease and a ford parts label on it, part number E81A 6108 0 + .060. I also got a box of ten gasket sets for ford V8, they were wrapped with a newspaper dateed july 1944, so i'm hoping these are V8 too.

Fingers crossed i'm going back friday for another load , just need to identify some of this so i can convince the misses its a good idea. If i don't buy it, its going in the scrap.

The story behind the spares is they all came from an air base when it was shut down, maybe that helps.

Hello Richard,

I thought you'd smell the cosmoline, thanks for taking the time to look.

So the fan belts are Albion, hmmmm i have 30 of these, with 2 in each box, and i guess i'll be lucky if theres two Albions left. Oh well the boxes are nice!!!

The label on the pistons reads,

61.ms 204399 + .020"
piston assembly
(.020"o/s) (V8480/20)

The point set (if I am reading the NSN correctly as 2920-00-606-8506) is also for the same trucks.

John, The headlights with the vertical lined glass and the two side mounts are British carrier lights (Loyd and Valentine as well)
Is the No1 Dizzy cap an Autolite from an Escort or Cortina (Mk1 or MkII)

Default Morris.

Hello,

The large lucas headlamp with side supports is for a Morris or Humber, confirmed by a morris expert who bought the headlamp for one of his projects.

Jared I've tried to email you back but it just keeps bouncing back. Sorry the headlamp had sold by the time i got your email. If any more turn up i will give you first refusal on them, thanks for your help.

John

Default Gaskets

Hello,

I've searched the ford piston part number online, and MACs have them listed as ford V8.

Here's the gaskets i got, and some pictures of the newspaper that was in the box.

Default Mystery parts- Ford Gaskets

Hello John,

The head gaskets are for Post War (1945) 59A onwards until 1948 Ford Flatheads. They are marked "100HP"

As shown in attached photo the earlier head gaskets had a trapezoidal hole in the centre whereas the later gaskets had a round hold which reflects the difference in the cooling chamber shape at the deck of the block of the earlier vs later flatheads.

Cheers,

John
That headlight bucket is very similar to a Morris Bosch CVA headlight , it probably is CVA brand but : I have a couple of those same loyd-matilda tank headlights myself and the brass mounts attached to the bucket are in a different location to the Morris bucket . The Morris bucket has the mount castings attached slightly farther back by an inch or so . I can post pics

Hello Jacques,

Thank you for taking the time to reply, and putting the pictures up. The news paper that was in the box was dated 17th July 1944, but i guess there's nothing to say that paper was from the day it was packed. Thanks again for your time.
