Default Make your own matt paint

Years ago, I had most of the early copies of ARMY MOTORS the mag of the MVCC or whatever the U.S. military vehicle club was called back then.

In a certain edition , a guy had written a good article on making your own matt paint . Basically, he used silica powder as the matting agent , the same silica that hobby potters use . Most hobby pottery supplies sell silica powder in bags. You mix the silica into enamel paint with a paddle in a power drill .

Another way of matting paint is by using different reducers- reducer that flash off quickly will often lead to the sheen becoming dull. Xylene, toluene and even plain gasoline have been used.

Xylene is a known carcinogen, so that's not a good idea these days.

Default Xylene

Xylene is used on a daily basis by pathology labs all over. If you use it with care and the proper equipment it is fine.

Just by mixing in Baby Powder into the gloss paint will matt it down for you too.

Is that anything like offering tea to a person as a metaphor for sex?
