Mine has a wartime Mb engine, and a French rebuild tag...

Maybe blasphemy for saying so, but I'd use the low hours engine in a vehicle and put a crapped out but cosmetic one in the generator. Having the generator run is great but how many times do you really expect to use it? More than once I've been tempted to restore a Ford engined generator trailer this way.

Back in the day Lorne Ertle found one of these with a Ford Jeep engine with no hours on it. He pulled the motor and sold it as a NOS GPW engine. There was a lineup for it.

In the 80s we still had these generators in war stock at base supply, and would have to service and inspect them periodically. At that time, if they needed an engine, the M38 engines were still stocked to upgrade them.
