Default milling machine

I picked up this milling machine on the weekend .. a local clearance sale ..lots of stuff at giveaway prices

Anyway .. turns out is was made by CASH engineering in Richmond , Melbourne . They designed and made these during WW2 as a contract for the US forces here in Australia . Reverse LEND LEASE again . I don't have the vertical head attachment , this transforms the mill into a vertical mill ..very neat . Its single phase . Table power feed .

The company still exists today . amazing but true . This info came from the grandson of the founder of the business

Some big and heavy machines sold for almost nil.. the deceased estate of a live steam train enthusiast ..... bargain bonanza time MIKE

There is a Lathe ON E-BAY at the moment which is a 1940 war effort piece.

Still fitted with a brass plate stating:

"THIS EQUIPMENT
IS THE PROPERTY OF
MINISTRY OF MUNITIONS
COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA"

An essential item, I would think, to make the most authentic reproduction 25pdr projectiles!

Oh you lucky begger!

I never get anything like those sales up this way.....well, not anything worth going to see. I am looking for a metal lathe, too!

here you go Tony

http://www.lathes.co.uk/purcell/

The spindle speeds are rather slow with very low top speed . Looks like it has plain spindle bearings too, not ideal . Mike
