Default Ebay gets greedier

Just noticed on Oz eBay a message saying that as from mid June 2008 all transactions on eBay whether buying or selling must be done using Paypal which is owned by eBay. Credit cards are accepted but once again only if the transaction is done through Paypal.

This means if if you sell something using eBay you will pay the eBay fee plus a fee on the paypal transaction plus a fee to download your money from Paypal to your bank acount. A buyer pays any bank fees on uploading money to Paypal to pay for goods if there are any.

I for one will cease to use eBay for buying or selling as from that date as I cannot afford the fees especially if selling.

I had thought of that, too, but then I remembered that you can sell something worth $10 on e-bay that fetches $100, so the fees don't really affect the return. This has certainly been the case for many "Real life" auctions where the auctioneer takes either a sellers fee or a buyer's commision. E-bay is still on the cheap side in the scale total fees. Just remember to include the fees due when you set your selling price.

That is true Tony and worth thinking about but what of the buyer who's bank charges fees to shift money to their paypal account? I guess you can subtract that amount from the amount you are willing to pay for the item.

I still feel that it is anti compeditive not to allow other forms of payment when they are already in place. Much like a supermarket chain saying you have to pay for your groceries using the chain Stores own brand of credit card and refusing to accept cash or eftpos transactions.

Thumbs down Greedy Bastards

I agree Cliff, most items I have lined up to sell will be less than $20, so, therefore, I have the poos & will not be using ebay. (Probably until I get over it)...

I for one quit using Ebay a couple years ago due to their greed and that of Paypal. The only way to send a message to companies that continue to thieve out of the little guys pockets is to stop using their venues...

The last time I used Paypal was to accept $ for a transaction and it cost me over $5 for a $20 sale. 25% is highway robbery in my opinion.
