Default Unusual WC52

This picture is from the Britains Small Wars site. The rear vehicle looks like a standard WC52 but the near one is more unusual. There appears to be a half armoured windscreen that extends around the sides? and an unusual box on the fender. Has anyone got any better pictures of an armoured Dodge like this in use in Malaya and could it be based on the WC57?

the French forces used a lot of modified (including armour) Dodge WC series including 6X6's in Indochina post WW2. Perhaps you may find out more infomation about them from this source.

Default French WC51 4X4

Here is another Dodge armored and converted into a railway truck. Shown in Indochina in 1959.

Once again I am sorry I cannot remember where this photo came from.

Guys.......

Is that what I think it is? It looks like a CMP wrecker on the right edge of Paul's pic..........an F60H 6x4 Wrecker or maybe a "Type 4" 4x4 Wrecker?

Paul, you don't happen to have any more shots which covers that vehicle?

regards,

Alex

p.s. Sorry for going off-topic, Paul.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for posting some more shots of the wrecker. It looks like an F60L with " type 4 wrecker" body to me.

According to Wheels and Tracks no.34 these were assembled in India. The wrecker used the same Holmes W45 equipment as the Ford F60H and the Diamond T wrecker. I'm almost certain the body is also similar to the F60H Wrecker.

thanks Paul,

Alex

From what I've read the British in Malaya tried armouring quite a few vehicles, as ambushes were common. CMP trucks were fully armoured and used as personnel carriers and later on the Bedford Pig was built for the same role, until enough Saracen APCs were made available. What looks like a box on the mudguard of the Dodge could be armour to protect the engine from the side.
