Default m52a2 with flatbed

Hello
I have found this m52a2 picture on a sale site, It looks to come from a governement sale.
I'm interested in 5ton tractor and was asking myself what could be the use of this flatbed on a tractor, It looks to be original, or army made anyway?
thank you
Best regards
Sylvain

Nothing about the originality of it, but you can see a Grove crane in the back ground. My guess is they use it to shift counterweights around.
What is the difference between this M52a2 basic tractor and the M818 tractor?

M52 is 1950s vintage with gasoline engine, M818 is 1960s vintage with diesel engine. I'm not sure what other differences there may have been. (possibly gearing to allow for the different character of the engines?)

hello
Thanks for your answer, it is possible that the bed was use for concrete blocs used as conterwheight, but for towing what? For me it looks military.

The m818 is the same truck , but a little younger and with an other engine, a cummins I think? instead of the multifuel on M52a2

Cheers
Sylvain

Give it a try, input M52A2 and the search engine will get you everything you want to know. As a bonus, inputting M818 will also give you similar results on that vehicle.

My question was just why is there a flathbed on this truck instead of the fifth wheel , and not what is a m52a2.
