Max,

Seems you´re right, I had not noticed the six wheel studs yet - the chassis model C15441 on the data plate had me fooled.

Could this be one of those C8AX´s imported from new Zealand into Australia after the war? It being a C8AX should also explain the Canadian-built cab.

Interesting stuff you guys have down there!

Hanno

Yes the data plate got me too... I think you're right, a C8AX. Cropping up everywhere here.

No, definately a C8AX. It has 6 stud wheels and the data plate listing it as an XH8448 fits nicely into This list.

Yes we got it, but please rub it in some more

How do you explain "chassis model C15441" on the data plate?

Sorry for asking silly questions, but Chev´s are not my strong point. . .

This now rings a bell - I'll have to check my pics but I think this is how the C8AX plates are stamped for some reason.

Sorry Hanno. I used "Read new posts", and came into the discussion at the bottom of page 6 and replied before I noticed that others had more kindly pointed out the discrepancy.

Who can explain Chev reasoning? It's a mystery why they (or DND perhaps?) would rate the C8AX as a 15cwt. Perhaps some HUP/HUW owners could share what their plates state. The real clue is the Chassis Serial, with 8448 ID'ing the C8AX.

Default Chevrolet MB-C1, ending soon

So far no bids at A$18, someone should scoop it at that price.
I can't either print a reproduction or mail it anywhere (not even down the street) for that price.

Is it like the GMC, Military rated at 2.5 ton, but on road, a 5 tonner.
The C8AX is an 8cwt, but would easily carry 15cwt on the road.
Maybe the reasoning is lost, like why do Japanese cars have 7/16 UNF threads, for seatbelt anchor points?

You raised a good point, possibly NZ was looking to procure 15-cwt trucks, and only the 8-cwt chassis was available, so GM relabelled it as a 15-cwt?!?

This C8AX was sold for AU $3,007.25 and the chassis/cab ended up at a MLU Forum member - see C8AX Tac Sign:

We went 50/50 so helped me out as I took the truck, which is now tray less! Hence my search to see what it had on it as a tray in the past.

Default Wasn't this the one...

which was in a recent clearing sale?

It certainly didn't look like it had hit a bridge before being sold at the clearing sale. Possibly the wheels were removed to lower it after hitting something while being transporting it on the back of the truck. What a shame.

I think it was Another Blitz on Oz EBAy. It was without wheels and it seems the roof was already damaged.

Yes I think you're right. Somehow I had missed it. These C8AX vehicles are as common as anything here now.

Does anyone know what happened to this one?

Ah a Dodge T110. I have driver handbooks for these NOS.

That's a savage bit of rust in an unusual place in the brow of the cab.

Looks like there's a fair bit of interest in it. I think the roof hatch is the same as used on the Ford cab 12 here - they were made by an outside supplier for Ford and Dodge.

Default Cab Over GMC Compressor truck

Item No 260504998841

A bit of a rarity Downunder. Would this have seen Aust service (RAAF? AWC?) or is it more likely to be a US left-behind?

Yes, I believe so. These were quite common here in Queensland with local councils in the 50's and early 60's.

These are for the smaller 3 1/16" bore and won't suit a Blitz or LP Carrier, but a good price nonetheless.
