I just picked up a couple of Medals and other items in a small box...inside was the standard 3 red Service stripes on the badge for the lower sleeve of the BD..however there was a second badge of this type..the 3 Stripes are larger and they are Black in colour..I have never seen this before..anyone have any ideas???

Thank you

The black service chevrons were early Second World War issue. They were changed to the smaller pattern later in the war. I have not heard of those being used for rifles' regiments.
