Default "British" Assault

Hi Hanno:

Interesting caption... looks like CL on the census number.

First time I've seen a photo of the star painted onto the tarpaulin like that.

Cheers! Mike

Other than the picture in Gregg's book, this is the first wartime picture I have ever seen of a 20-cwt GS trailer. And it was taken in Holland! Berlagebrug, Amsterdam, 8 May 1945.

I see a better use for the hatch has been found.

Interesting picture, Hanno. Judging from the angles of the engine cover, it's a cab12. The body looks like a British built wooden GS body to me.

Is that the Guards Armoured divison sign on the fender? If the AoS is the same as the Bedford QL behind it, than it could be "Armoured Brigade Motor Batallion", Guards Armoured Brigade.
Background does look very Dutch, by the way!

Alex

Here is a picture from the Groesbeek museum website. (I added a bit more contrast and sharpened it a little)

For your reference, here are the photos and data sheet of the "20-cwt GS Trailer Body Composite Construction" from the AEDB Design Record:

Found a larger scan in the Tilburg archives, seems this is a British 20-cwt water trailer

Caption: "WWII. Bombs. One of the 37 V 1s that crashed within the municipality of Tilburg ended up in the Minister Talmastraat on 1 February 1945, killing 23 people. The explosive power of the bomb even caused great damage to the nearby Leo School, where British soldiers were housed."

Default Canadian Mutual Aid Programme, 1955

Found this document on equipment being offered to NATO allies under the Canadian Mutual Aid Programme in 1955.

The list includes a total of 580 of "Trailer, 20-cwt, 2-wh, GS" being offered to Denmark, France, Italy, Norway, Portgal and Turkey. As far as I know, Norway was the only country to take up this offer, totalling 65.
