Default Interesting post lots of history to this

Here is another bit of history of UXB and unexploded shells, this is one that has been going on for 15 years inside Washington, DC where they have been finding buried chemical warfare shells from WWI. These were found in a very expensive housing development. The latest http://www.nbc4.com/news/15012865/detail.html deals with a halt to digging because they encountered "discovery of a shell that was configured to explode."

There is a WWII bombing range near us that has been declared cleared at least twice and each time they turn up new UXBs some 500LBs. This particular site will not likely be built on though as the bombing range is part of a very high security military base that is likely to remain active for a long time.
