Unhappy chev gun tractor

your lucky day. I'm loosing storage of my 1940 chev cab 11 gun tractor & parts. Don't have pictures yet to load in but I should still have some under soft skins, forget which thread. The cabin was cut off behind the door. the roof hatch is still intact and functional It has spare diff (complete housings with 20" wheels), spare winch and basic engine. also have a door frame to use as a pattern and 2 seat frames one has partial pading. right now the body is off the frame but will get it back together very soon. I WILL NOT seperate anything, either all or nothing. I want $5500 firm. If not interested in buying don't bother commenting. I am offering it here first. If not sold by Jan 31 07, will be listed on ebay. prefer to be gone by feb 28 but can hold until mid march.

I thought the MLU Forum was an open discussion arena?

Aren't you being just a little presumptuous with your statement...

I must have missed something, good luck with that one on eBay

Ray, if you had searched for you own name on this forum, you would have come across F.A. Gun Tractor. I am not interested in buying, so won't comment, but would love to see more pics.

Thanks,
Hanno

P.S.: I merged the two threads into this single one in the For Sale section.

Slight reprieve. I can keep storage "into summer". What I meant by no comments is that some folks question every little thing I post. That gets very annoying. Still trying to get pictures. Don't want to sell but went from 30 x 60 shop to 30 x 20 2 car garage. I can't even fit it in the door.

Ray, don't take this the wrong way, but MLU IS all about the history of this stuff. People WILL ask questions, tis the nature of the hobby. If that 'annoys' you perhaps it's a good thing you're selling; in the meantime, no one here except me can order anyone NOT to post on any given subject, clear?

I would love an 11 cab CFAT but obviously fatuous comment is not to be encouraged so I won't indulge in further questioning for fear of reprimand.

As an aside...... and as a rhetorical question you understand............ I find the concept interesting that the act of questioning can bring about such a state of vexation in one who apparently shares a similar interest with the greater body of those assembled here.

Tut Tut I thought that these magnificent vehicles that we love and cherish represented a cause that paid the ultimate sacrifice for the right to question all things.

Mr. Ashby, on this forum you are beyond reprimand.

BTW, what the hell is "PTO&G"...? Enquiring minds want to know (those of us too dumb to figure it out for ourselves). I hope it's something innately rude.

My Dear Fellow

How jolly decent of you to say so.
Much appreciated and an honour if I may say so.
I shall endeavour as always do my utmost to live up to the respect bestowed upon me.

PTO&G.............. ah.... yes.... well you see this is something that is becoming increasingly rare, a dying breed one might say, in this sad and battered isle that I call home.
Our good chum R and indeed your good self could also use this epithet as we are, as you well know, of a like mind on an number of issues pertaining to the current sad state of our beloved country...... now where was I... Oh yes PTO&G it's not a what is it..... it's a who is it.

Well, if they knew what ovens were down in Texas, perhaps, but they only know "BBQ". Pronounced as spelt, seeing as they have a hard time with "barbeque". Nice blokes nonetheless, especially when they've had their shots and been neutered.

Default To get back to the gun tractor.....

... what ever happened to it.........

I for one would love to see more pictures of the beast particularly the back end.... hitch and fairleads...... any info on serial number date of manufacture... info for David's archives..... 'tis a rare piece.

What kind of front axle..... cast one piece or does it have a bolted cover on the front of the axle..... original 216???

Ray......Hoping you do not mind answering the questions... I have only seen two other badly rusted CGT so far..... and I am always trying to learn.....

...but I am not into the polite rethorics ( I know Jiff I can't spell) of my esteemed colleages..... I am more to the greasy end of things.... hahaha

Thanks for your time.

Bob C.

Thanks

I don't mind intelligent relevent questions. Actually I rather enjoy them. But random dribble like the 14 posts before yours are what waste my time. I don't know everything, not even close but I do know somethings. Most times I have posted anything it has been challenged to the extreme until given absolute proof positive. As I am on very slow dial up it gets very time consuming.
As for your legimate questions, The truck is not together at the moment, the body is hoisted into the ceiling of my now "old" shop and the chassis is in the back half of the shop. With myself moving, my father passing, then my mother moving, pictures haven't been a priority but none the less they will be coming. The hitch and fairleads were cut off but I have the rear frame section from a'43 cab 13 that by my research should be a direct replacement. The only i.d. I had was a plate from the body that had been painted over. I sent it to a professional art restorer to have it cleaned properly but they sent it back regular mail and it got lost. Funny though they still cashed the money order. The axles are chev removeable center not the ford split case. as for the "216" I am unfamiliar with this. The body was cut off 2" behind the doors down to the floor. Once I have the shop cleared and the truck together I will try to forward pictures, or even arrange for you to see it yourself.

Dear Sir, your arrogance once again rears its ugly head....

Our community here on MLU is one of good heartedness, friendly sparring and the occasional jab at one another, all in a lighthearted manner of course.

I for one am not familiar with the other postings in which you refer to being questioned or criticized but I do note that you have less than 15 posts.

It would seem to me if you can't stand the heat ya better stay out of the kitchen...

BTW, sorry for wasting your time

Closing on 70,000 posts on this software, with over 50,000 on the previous software. That would seem to validate your evaluation, Mr. Vickery, and I thank you for your observation. Given our membership of 1354 with only two or three expulsions in nine years, I would say your characterisation of the MLU community is accurate. It IS unfortunate that some don't seem to appreciate that. Perhaps time will ameliorate that misunderstanding.

Ray

You may notice if you look that this thread has produced to date of writing 758 viewings for your truck.
This is not a bad hit rate when you consider you are advertising for free.
Here on MLU you have access to a vast store house of knowledge from the worlds leading authorities’

So I would suggest that being here is not a waste of your time for several reasons.
However if you feel that the previous posts have in someway been an insult to you then I apologise.

Pete

Ray..You certainly have had some trials and tribulations with your fathers passing and the moves..but after our moderator and his son,I made the 1st posting on this Forum..and I'm still here...
Having a dial up server is annoying and time consuming but you may not have any other options ...
So accept that you will have to sort through the drivel to get to the goodies..
There are all types that post here that have a common interest..
We even get crusty old farts like you but we like 'em all..you have a CMP truck..an interest in our hobby so have a cuppa tea..a joint..a hand full of Valium ..a beer or go to bed earlier...But RELAX man..
We even have wierd upside down people from the land of OZ...
And we have a fine little lady friend of mine that will drive us all around the bend eventually with all the questions and has posted a ka-zillion posts..I forget her real name, she has so many aliases...

If you don't have any manuals for your truck, you can contact me off line and you'll find the manuals are the bible when it comes to restorations/..
I'm just up the road in Ottawa, and if you are up this way call me.
Meanwhile ,you'll learn to have a thick skin because we are a pretty out spoken bunch..
Get rid of that coal fired computer and go to a wireless laptop..
That should speed things up ..
Welcome to MLU.
