Default Sunshine Roof/Desert Cab

Hello All. I am currently restoring a No 13 Cab Ford F15A. The cab roof is the sunshine/desert top. I am looking for drawings/pictures and dimensions for the canvas top. I currently have no references. Not only are the dimensions important but also how the top was sealed. Was there a rubber seal on the front of the roof? Can anybody help? Thanks

Default Hi Tim

Hi Tim

Glad you took my advice, welcome to MLU. If you haven't already, look in the Restoration threads and you'll see my latest post that features the instruments you sent over. I'm working on them. In the mean time MLU gurus will no doubt be of great assistance.

Bob

Default Sunshine roof

David ,

Tim is refering to the Aust. pattern "sunshine roof " , it was a local design feature seen on some of the GMH and Ford 13 cabs .

There was a single bow running along the roof centre to stop the canvas from drooping . Basically , they cut out the whole centre section of the roof and replaced it with a canvas cover . Great for sunny days ! This feature would cost you thousands on a new car today . The pic below is the GMH version

Default Sunshine Cab Roof

I have a fairly original Ford sunshine Cab 13 tucked away in the shed at home as a future project. There are are no rubber seals the canvas is simply pulled tightly over the roof cutout via an edge rope and cleats. When open the roof is rolled back it is tied to two eyelets that hold the roll at the back curve of the cab roof.
The sunshine cab is a popular restoration item in Australia and a company in Queensland "Blitz'n Bits" sell complete replacement kits for the sunshine roof. I will try to get a contact number for you if you wish to purchace parts
