Ontar's in WW2
Hello, all..
My great uncle Chuck Bennett fought with the Ontario Reg't in the Second World War. Unfortunately, he passed away many years ago and all i have to remember him by are his medals, a few old pics of him in his battle dress, and some fuzzy childhood memories. According to his medals he fought in both Italy and France/Germany, but there's certainly always more to their story than what medals and national archives tell. My dad (a Korean War vet) says my great uncle didn't talk much about the war so i was hoping to find someone who perhaps knew and served with him who could share a story or two. I'd be grateful for any help. Thanks.. Gord

11th Canadian Tank Regiment
My uncle, Jack Edyvean served with C Squadron Ontario Tank Regiment. He had the time of his life in Italy and had many wild stories, including commanding the tank with his left hand stuck up out of the hatch hoping for a "Blighty" during a low period.
He said what really peed them off one day was when a German shot up their cooking gear hanging on the back of the tank. That was not a good day for the Hun when they put several rounds of HE in the house where he was. Seems to me the name Bennet is mentioned in his picture book. |

Thanks, Peter.. i'll check out that link and hopefully it'll get me somewhere.
Wouldn't it be nifty if our uncles served together, eh? Gord
