Have to ask the battery cover you have on there ...i have a 1967 and it has the same style with the on clip very easy to open my 53 has the type with the 8 thumb busters...Did you change it out or is that a varient...? Hoping it is as it was as I would like to be able to swap it out. thanks and very inspiring for me to see such great examples!

M38A1 CDN 1952-1953 ------------------------ * front grill hinged * generator * battery cover bolted with 8 thumb screws * wire headlight protector * embossed brass data plates * convoy light M38A1 CDN2 1967-1968 ---------------------- * front grill bolted * alternator * battery cover clamps down * no wire headlight protector * painted data plates * dash changed * blackout brake light * right rear light cluster sticks out * heater M38A1 CDN3 1970-1971 ---------------------- * windshield washer * solid state flashers * self-adjusting brakes * front wheel bearings and hubs changed * M151 air filter This will provide you with the basic differences between your CDN and your CDN2, as built (meaning your CDN may have had some of the later modifications done to it while in service). As you can see, the thumbscrewed battery cover is original for a CDN, while the one with the clamp is original for a CDN2. Mike
