A friend sent me the link to a web site on the 5th Army Mobile Radio Station. The photos are amazing.

Default Same thing here

hi Cliff

The Australian army amenities service did the same thing , usually the truck was a 3 Ton Blitz ..there is a AWM pic of one in Camberwell Melbourne ..I cannot find it at present , but these pics will suffice .

Summary: WEWAK POINT, NEW GUINEA. 1945-10-23. THE BROADCASTING STATION AREA AT RADIO STATION 9AJ, 1 BROADCASTING STATION, AUSTRALIAN ARMY AMENITIES SERVICE. THE MOBILE TRUCK CONTAINS THE ENTIRE EQUIPMENT.

Amenities receivers were issued by the Salvos etc.. they were specially made and ran from a 6 Volt wet cell battery . I had a few , AWA made one with a opening door over the speaker .

There were many non-mobile stations too. Port Moresby had a very large station and many were located all over New Guinea and the islands. They played music and kept up morale ...

Here are two links describing two different amenities sets... there were about 4-5 Australian brands ..all different in layout.

I had an example of the Stromberg Carlson set, with New Guinea provenance . I sold it to the AWM some years ago.

Default Pics

The Camberwell pics . Looks like they had a Jeep and trailer with a 5KVA generator powering it all . Would have been a glitch if the Blitz and Jeep became seperated !
