Cool daimler dingo scout car

does anyone know if the rear main seal on the engine can be changed without removing the engine from the gearbox. the engine is a Daimler 2.5L straight six.

Cheers

Default Yuck

I had to help tighten a loose flywheel on a late Dingo and we had to completely dismantle the whole rear end of the thing.

I'm not sure but purely from memory you can do very little to that area with the engine in the vehicle

Clive,
There is no actual seal in the rear mains, it is a scroll on the crankshaft. Sometimes these will leak if the grooves in the scroll are gunged up. If you wish to remove the engine it has to come out with the gearbox as an assembly.
You could drop the sump to check the scroll. If the mains are worn the crank can the touch the housing around the scroll and they can leak.
