Default Dodge D8A T212 info needed

Does anyone have a copy of Wheels and Tracks issue No. 1 . It has the article written by Bart V on the Dodge D8A 4X4 . A scanned copy would be great .

Also , any good pics of the D8A , I am writing a article on them for a club magazine .

Thanks

Mike

Thanks Hanno ,

Good web site you have there .

Do you know who has got the copy of that Chrysler Canada booklet on the T212 . It's a coloured booklet showing them on the test track at Windsor and on the assembly line .

I have the booklet from somebodys post , but it's not clear enough to read it .

Is it Gordon who has it ? C'mon you scottish person you own up .

Mike,

Bart's article of the Dodge D8A 4x4, can you find in Wheels & Tracks issue No. 4, pages 14 - 21.
If you like, I can send a copy by mail.

Mike,

Thanks - I fancy the T212. Am lucky enough I got to Ride in Al Toees' example at Beltring two years ago.

Gordon indeed bought the booklet you referred to - see "E-Bay item I've bid on". Maybe he's nice enough to send you some scans

Regards,
Hanno

P.S.: Also see your "Canadian 1/2 ton DODGE scout 4X4 info" thread on the Old MLU Forum.

Guilty, it has a bunch of 'coloured' shots of D8A's being used and preapred for shipment to Egypt, but they are basically just yellow-tinted monochrome shots and not up to much.

Only thing I noted was a government inspector puttting an acceptance stamp on the last six inches of the side of the left rear chassis rail.

thanks for the help all .

David , looks like only 3001 were built , but , there should be more around today , only four or five are left . What happened to all the others . Blown up by Rommel ?

I would really like to read the Bart V article on them in W&T No. 4 . Doesn't anyone have a scanner ?

I have a poor quality pic of a T212 in Italy with a New Zealand army MP unit .

A parts list I have for SM 5077 includes the T212 and many other Chrysler Canada built vehicles but its dated August 44 .

Still searching

Mike

Default S/M 2029

Mike, do you have any more information in the book about S/M 5007 please? The '5XXX' series was I thought not used for soft-skins...'2XXX' and '6XXX', with '1XXX' for armoured. It could have been a parts order???

The British trucks were part of S/M 2029 which also included the Chevrolet C8s.

Z 4613111 to 4613593 ...British deliveries but there were Mid-East deliveries which were then allocated Mid-East area census numbers. I suspect that the NZEF trucks were Mid-East S/M 2029 deliveries that were then issued to forces in Egypt for the Libyan campaign. Were there any AIF D8As?

I have a scanner and I think W&T # 4 so if you get stuck, I'll get stuck in for you.

Default Interesting Supply Mech....

The T212 and T222 are the smaller Canadian D8A 4 x 4 and D15 4 x 2 trucks we've discussed before.

T112 (civilian model WC, 1941-up) and T116 (civilian model WD 20 and WD 21, 1941 up) are standard half and one ton 4 x 2. The 120" wheelbase T116 will be a pickup as that's all that was available on that chassis length, but the 133" T116 could be either a pickup or the panel van pictured. I've seen that image before in Vanderveen titled 'one ton panel van made for the Canadian army' or some such

Default T116

This is possibly a T116 fitted with a INDIAN pattern ambulance body

Western Australia . The bent front axle is testimony to the force of the prang !

Default it's a T72 TD21 or VD 21 i think...

Basically the same truck, but the earlier T72 TD or whatever the VD engineering code was, as the headlights are in the 1939 and 1940 location, rather than the 1941-up wing top location used on the T116 WD 21 series like the panel van above.

Close though, and a rare truck even as a chassis and cowl.

Many thanks to Hanno and Gordon and Dirk

Dirk kindly emailed me the W&T article I needed .

Those factory pics are fascinating . Pity so few of these survived .

How many people in Windsor today would even know about these vehicles ?

I am certain that the crate being stencilled for Egypt was D8As to S/M 2029...if not absolutely certain!!! Nice pic as well.

Mike, here's a pic of a Carrier of the 'Hasty Pees' somewhere in Italy with a T212 in the background. It is featured on Geoff's site, so maybe he can provide a higher resolution scan?

Default T212

Hanno

Where do you find these great pics ! Well done .

I do recall seeing a pic of one of these trucks in NZ , taken years ago by a enthusiast who recognized the T212 as being a very unusual vehicle .

Wonder what became of it ?

Garry, do you mean this picture? Sharp eye! But I think the one at right rear is a D15.

Default S/M 2029

I have posted a revised list of Dodge trucks, including the S/M 2029 domestic and Mide East census numbers,

http://www.battlezone.org.uk/wardodgelist.htm

Please download and then save...this may solve the 'table' distortion problem.

Default another T212 in North Africa

Nice picture of another T212 in North Africa. It was printed in the book MERCY in HELL - An American Ambulance Driver with the Eighth Army by Andrew Geer, Captain, American Field Service, and is captioned: "Our" Day in a Mine Field (Captain Geer in Foreground, Nettleton Leaning against Ambulance, Lieutenant Ives with Arms Akimbo).
