Chev wireless body part 2
Martin:
I could be dead wrong, but what you've shown seems to me to be a 15 cwt wireless box (which would be fitted on the 101" WB chassis) mounted on the 158" WB chassis. Going through, for example, Canada's Fighting Vehicles, CMP Series Vol I, I couldn't find a match for the configuration which you posted. Perhaps a review, if possible, of the history of this vehicle might uncover some relevant facts about probable matches of chassis and superstructure.

Hard to tell, yes, but look at the distance along the lower edge. That forward of the wheel well is longer than the rear. This may well be a 30 cwt. (the picture of the "Truck, 15 cwt, Wireless" on page 61 of Bill Gregg's book has the same appearance and seems to be a 30 cwt.). The 2K1 and related types are shorter and have equal distances forward and rear of the wheel well. This seems to be an aluminum body that is a stetched version of the one commonly on 15 cwts. Does it have an ID plate? I have some inforation on 2KI interiors if they are at all similar.

Wireless
Hi Guys
This is a 30cwt body and is very similar to that fitted on a 15cwt but the body is that bit longer and leaves enough room for the wheel carrier behind the cab. I guess the interior would be very simi lar to that of the 15cwt

Contracts!
L 5584483 to L 5585063 Contract SM 6051 "LORRY 3 TON 4 X 4 WIRELESS (HOUSE)"CMP C.60L 8443...I have a copy of a print of one of these! IWM PHOTO # KID 3042 taken at Kidbrooke.
The other is a new on on me....CDLV 314 for a Wireless. It's a Canadian order but from all my data I would suggets that it was ordered around the time of S/M 2567, the British Wireless House trucks. These are valuable additions to my database!!! |

All three please
Thanks, colour pix of al three, minus people if possible!
Thanks Mr W-B.I have come across perhaps three or four people in my life who share my birthday. Juliette, aka SHE WHO MUST BE OBEYED is peed off because she's 42 on Tuesday. Our daughter Danielle is 16 now and she starts Catering College on Thursday. How time flies...Kieran's 12 and Stuart 6. Anyone got a 16 or so year old son or daughter who would like to be a penfriend for Danielle? She had a penfriend in the US, a boy of even age whose parents were well-off. Yes I was hopeful...we need the money. Last edited by David_Hayward (RIP); 31-08-03 at 23:42. |

Maple Leaf Up
Mr W-B oh Great Sir, my six-year olf Stuart Craig Hayward has just asked what MAPLE LEAF UP means! He is very good at reading and like his Dad can read upside down...I taught myself to read all the mail on the bosses' desks you see. What IS the history of the wartime MLU please? I profess I could do with more input..more input..need more input [shades of that robot in the film ..Number 42].

David, I think you mean the great No.5 in "Short Circuit"? My kids watched that countless times when they were young... Does Hanno's picture spell it out, or would you like a factual explanation? Here's another hint... there was also a 'Maple Leaf Down'....

Hello david
Regarding cdlv314 for a wireless this truck had a breakdown body formed by cutting down a wooden radio body as on page 98 bill greggs book all the floor beams were numbered with yello paint but it was early days for us so through the lot away including the rear steel mudguards i can see why they were called house type vic eaton |

HELLO ROLF
Many thanks for the prompt reply i have just seen a picture of your wireless truck sent to me by martin my son you must be the only person in the world that has seen one of the heaters that bolts to the body ive been thinking about this for what seems like years wondering how it was fitted on we thought it stood on the wheel carrier owing to the strange fittings on the end of our wheel carrier which are in line with the rivit holes going up where the heater should be i have the instruction plate on how to light the heater it surprises me that the burner would be so close the body when it would be very hot i would dearly love to see some close up pictures of this unit the photoes we have dont show it very well if you could send us some close pictures i would pay for the film willingly this heater has realy got me going . hope to hear from you rolf vic uk . |

Hello Vic
and welcome to the forum. You will have many good times spendt in front of Your computer this fall....
Yes, I got a mail from Martin telling me you was on the net. I have a few problems with my softweare, but hopefully I have it fixed tomorrow. I am not able to scan or download any pictures from my digi-camera. As soon as I have fixed it, I will take some pictures of the heater on the body. Must say it has been a while since I studiet it, and perhaps it is also mounted on the spare wheel carrier, but I am sure the cover around the heater at least is bolted on to the wireless body (have a picture here). The heater is an Evans Products Co., Detroit, Michigan U.S.A. That means the instruction plate tells so. I am not able to read the serial and model numbers from the picture, but will check it tomorrow. I am missing the fuel tank which is to be placed in the mid of the body front, all ut to the roof, but have strong leads on one. Found a picture on my computer. Not to good, but the one I have in hand showing the dataplate for the burner. I will send you more info soon... Rolf |

Was checking a little on the wireless this afternon. The heater is -not- attached to the wheel carrier. It is entierly hold on place by bolts to the body. The serial # on it is B-11576 and Model # is 204212
How the burner works, is a bit to much to list here, but Vic if you give me your snail mail, I can send you a copy of a Manual called "Artic Equipment for Canadian Military Pattern Vehicles" (RTCI-C1) of July 1942. It has a section among several, regarding the "Gasoline Body Heaters" for "30-cwt Wireless Body: 3 Ton 4x4 Ambulance and Office Body". There all about the heater is. Rolf |

in the mail
tomorrow. The copy is in the envelope and will be in the mailbox tomorrow....
My truck also have the winter equipment. I guess the fuel used was the same as on the engine, would make sence. Looking forward to see the wheel carrier. I recon there can't be to many different types. On my truck the wheel carrier is the same as for 20 inch wheels as used on C60L's, so it might look a bit strange with a small 16 inch wheel. Are looking for the dilluter unit to go on the instrumentpanel... Even the ditributor is screened, and there are many other small items due to prevent the interference. There is a small round "thing" in the passangers rear corner of the cab. Have put in a picture. Any idea what that might be?? Rolf |

Hi Rolf,
Just got back from a few days holiday. That round thing you have in your cab is as a buzzer that was operated by people in the wireless body, we also have this in one of our wireless trucks. It looks like Dad is getting into this forum stuff! Talk soon

dilluter
Hey Vic and MArtin
First I was thinking on the electricaly instrument on the instrument panel, which was a type of a clock which pumped gasoline into the engine true an electricaly pump. I have some of the dilluter tanks to go in the windowsframe. Your body heater's serial number is only 20 from mine. What abouth the vehicle? My wireless has chassis serial 3844124131, Contrackt number SM 6051 and has date of MFG Oct. 18 - 43 I think I have to start the restoration on this one....... Rolf |
