Aveling Barford Calfdozer
Came across this unusual vehicle at the Kingston Tractor Museum in South Australia.
The info claimed it was built in Grantham, England and was airportable.

I was recently visiting the workshops at Bovington Tank Museum and they were using one of these to clear the mud from the yard. It was painted in army green and looked the part in the surroundings, but I do not know if they were used by the military. It is the sort of machine that would have been useful in a cattle yard!

Calfdozer
Keith,
Just done a search and found this website; http://www.mysite.wanadoo-members.co...er/index.jhtml It appears that the prototype was built around 1942-3 at Avelings, from parts already available, ha, this is where it gets interesting. Avelings built Carriers and you can see tracks and running gear parts were left overs!

I see what you mean!
The pic of the prototype from the above link does have that carrier parts look about it!

G'day All, It looks very ungainly especially sitting atop that pile of loose earth, I wonder how many fatalities the machine accounted for, good find though interesting site cheers Dennis

Here is a snippet on the Calfdozer from the 1954 yearly book on British Construction Equipment, I remember when i first became involved in the plant hire industry in 1968 a customer in the Herne Bay area of Kent had two of these in use sadly the company is now long gone and i have no photos of them but they caught my imagination at the time
