Default Cab 13 Storage Bag

Does anyone have dimensions of the curtain storage bag that was fitted on the four clips on the lower cab panel to a CMP 13 cab. There is a picture of one in MB C1 which seems to show an additional small flap on the front of it
Thanks in advance
Keith

Default 13 Cab Bag

Keith, I am in possession of an original bag for the storage of the side curtains for the 13 cab. As soon as I have the opportunity, I will make up some drawings with dimensions and take some photos of same for you. Would there be any interest out there to yourself or any other enthusiasts as far as a reproduction item is concerned? I have considered maybe having some made if there was enough interest. I have only actually seen one of these, being the one that I own.

Default Reproduction Interest

Chris,

I would definitely be interested as well in a reproduction part as I am sure would a number of others. Please keep us posted on your responses and intentions. Thank you.

Default Storage Bag

Hi Chris,
Thanks for your helpful reply. Drawings and pictures would indeed be very helpful, however if enough interest is shown, then I would definately be interested in a reproduction of this storage bag. Lets hope some more 13 cabbers show their interest in this item.
Cheers
Keith

Default Colour?

Guys, just a quick question, someone may enlighten me. My cab storage bag is canvas, sort of a yellow, dog turd brown colour and original. Does anyone know if they were produced in OD green canvas? I would like to use an original colour, style and weight of canvas but I feel that maybe this yellowish type may be hard to source. Would you guys care if they were OD green eg. truck tarp fabric? Give me some input fellas! I'll continue to investigate the possibilities.

Chris,

CMP canvas came in sand, khaki and brown, depending on the colour of the truck, i.e. Light Stone #61, Khaki Green #3 (later U.S. Olive Drab) and Brown #2 (see paint schemes for CMP trucks). You will need to search, but there must be alternatives to standard OD green truck tarp fabric which is seen on every Jeep, Beep and Jimmy. For example, I know a couple of restorers in the UK who every now and then acquire sand coloured offcuts from a local tarp manufacturer.

Hanno

Hi Nick,
Thanks for the offer of measuring your storage bag at Stoneleigh, unfortunately, unable to attend this year. Will you be going to Stoneleigh at the end of Jan 04 ?.

Jonathan,

I bought one off Brian Asbury, PO Box 26, Milton, Ontario, Canada L9T 2Y3, phone/Fax: 1-519-853-1738.
A neat bit of kit indeed - and NOS, much nicer to have than a repro. I'd recommend the bag and the seller to anyone with a Cab 13 CMP! All I need now are the side curtains to fit in the bag....

Hope this helps,
Hanno

Thanks Hanno!

I will see if he has any more. I am in the same boat and need windows too, I wish someone had reproductions or a pattern for those too. I friend of mind will be making the chain boxes for me for my GS bed and I have some fabrication talent myself.

One of my major problems is that I am detailed oriented and start worrying about all the little details!

Here's a pic of an original curtain storage bag fitted on the four clips on the lower cab panel of No.13 cab, courtesy of Keith Orpin. The truck it is fitted to is the highly original C15 4x2 Keith pictured last summer.

Ballard . D. Has the bag (in light stone/sand drab) and the curtains too.

The awkwardness and the No.2 DTB scratching that occurs when fitting the side curtains is another oft repeated lecture that I can remember by heart.

Oh, while I remember, you remember we have a 1 gall oil can for you.

Chris: count me in for one as well.

Looks like you've generated some interest.

And all along, I surmised that the half-moon clips on the rear part of the Cab 13 were for antenna sections!...Live and learn.

Default Window Bags

Hi Chris:

There's a canvas maker here in Ottawa that does a lot of DND work, particularly one offs for the project offices when they are doing trials. They have done a number of historic MV projects for various collectors in the Ottawa area. One of the chaps is a fellow scuba instructor which is how I met him.

They now work primarily in the modern 'plastic' canvas so he and I are looking at buying a quantity of the OD and the yellowish/tan 'real' canvas for various projects I need done. We have also looked at getting a 'C' Broad-arrow stamp or stencil done. To avoid any 'repro' issues, he will stencil 'reproduction' and a modern date inside where it doesn't show.

If you're interested, when you have your drawings ready I'll ask him to quote on the project. If we collectively like the price we might get a better deal.

I can think of four or five needed at the S&P Museum and there are a number of other CMPs in Ottawa.

If Brian Asbury has one left it would be most useful to have an original for a pattern.

My 2 cents.

Cheers! Mike

Default Rendezvous in Florida

Hi Jonnie:

They are willing to stitch up anything you want. The problem is cost. You may not like what you hear when they quote on a bed cover.

I'll be in North Port (just South of Venice) over Christmas. Can I give you a shout and see your toys?

I'll be visiting Mike Scholer as well.

Cheers! Mike

Hi Mike!

Guess you will be 1 1/2 hrs south of me, pretty close. A visit would be fine but the CMP is still languishing in Manitoba. The James parts are scattered about the apt as its still going thru rebuild. But I would be glad to exchange details with you.

The biggest problem is having a pattern, then beyond that having it fit right. But I would really like have a real/reproduction full GS cover. I could slap a flat tarp on but what would that look like? Yes, it will be expensive.

Just been given an old Window bag suitable for a pattern, but notice that the fiittings are not the 1/2 moon clip with the canvas loop fitted over it as in Hannos pic above(http://www.mapleleafup.org/forums/sh...&threadid=2214)
but a bit of flat bolted to the Cab one, end and to the canvas stiffening plate on the other (4 x). I have one cab 13 with the 1/2 moon brackets, one with the remains of the bolted peices.
Questions:
Would the difference be Ford vs Chev (although both cabs are Chev, changes have been made)
Late or early production?
Whoever the bags were jobbed out to?
This is the first bag I have actually seen, so was pretty impressed to be given it (Thanks David) and interestingly is the same "dog Turd" colour as described in an earlier post, so this may have been the standard?
What do y'all think
Rich
