Arctic Kit...
Vic ..
Part of the Arctic kit was a heater that attached into the exhaust system exactly like a muffler(Silencer for y'all....) It had two (Inlet and outlet ports) for cab air that was ducteted to the windshield(Translation...windscreen) See Scan....... This device is a sealed heatexchanger and does NOT use exhaust fumes for heating direct... I tryed to scan an image but file size too big..I cut it down to 60% and was still too big ..I'll work on it later...Work time ...gotta go...

ford cold weather equip
HELLO ALEX
Yes i can see what you are saying i got this fan unit from nordian services the ford people if ever there were, and wally at that time said it just had a shroud type cover that went over the right hand manifold thats looking at the vehicle from the front and thats where this fan i have fits to the cylinder block at times we used to come accross fords but were engaged on rebuilding chevs but still dismantled them and kept the parts and i have always wondered about this fan its a new one never been used and ive always wondered if it was realy a ford part i was assured it was but could imagine the exaust manifold leaking into the shroud and the fan blowing carbon monoxide into the cab i have quite a few parts of the ford winterised kit including the primer pump jets that fit below the carb and all the ducting parts but not the piping so although we are not doing a ford i still find it interesting as to how that system was fitted and worked without poisoning the driver vic uk |

It would be easy to build once you see it..If I can get this sucker below 102 kilogiggles or what ever is holding up production..I wish there was some way to tell the size before we post.. I gotta be going to the wrong church...at least sittin' in the wrong pew.. Try this... If I keep at it I amaze myself...
There you go Vic.. The Arctic heating system..

Always happy to assist, except I think I made an error in saying "The diagram on page F1-12 seems to indicate the cabin outlet and driver's feet outlets are one and the same."
The diagram shows outlets aimed downward (with arrows) just before the windshield outlets, which I had not noted before. These seem to have a manual open/shut lever, and I suspect these are the vents aimed into the driver's and passenger's footwells. So the driver's feet outlet and the cabin outlet are not one and the same as I previously stated. Mike |

Special Cold Weather Equipment
And thanks for your pics. Have now merged the two threads to build up our common body of knowledge.
The big question is: how much difference was there between the cold weather equipment for Ford and Chevrolet CMPs? See the thread SCWE (Special Cold Weather Equipment) Maintenance Manual Ref. text below: "some company variations existed"?

Mariano.
What areas of Argentina would the Army have needed to install the cold weather equipment in their CMP’s? David |

As I have commented on other occasions, it seems that we receive tons of leftover parts from World War II, and many have never been placed or changed in the vehicles. It seems to be the case of these exhaust pipes, which were new in wooden crates, of course the wood deteriorated after a long time, but they are unused parts. What David asks, I would say that the Andes and Patagonia have extreme climates, but not as cold as the arctic, that is why they must not have had heating, nor do I think they knew that this had arrived to be installed and used for heat.

Argentina and Chile have temperate climates that range for coastal to high alpine, temperate subtropical to subarctic. Chile is narrower and has 16 distinct regions, based on geography and economics. The older I get the more I want to learn Spanish and travel in South America.

The defroster nozzle is installed...
What do you think? Original? Or belong to other vehicle? The holes on both sides...?

Mb-f1w
Some photos of found on our MLU FB page. A Ford F60L 3-ton truck with SCWE parts. Note the battery box and the window vents.
More interesting is the data plate listing the usual manuals but with a "W" added, denoting this truck was Winterized. Rhett Fisher used to have a MB-F1W: "It was very interesting, though quite a palaver involving dumping a set amount of fuel into the sump (oil pan)".
