Hurricane Noel
Since I'm stuck here at work in the middle of it, I might as well drag the rest of you in here with me.
Currently 1730 hrs AST 03NOV07: Temp 8.0C, Baro 29.91 inHg (and falling hard and fast), Gust/Avg 44kph/19.8kph, RH 97%, Rain at times heavy. Forecast locally calling for 100-140kph winds, 50-70mm rain peaking out around 0200hrs 04NOV and tracking right thru my front yard. The biggest concern is the number of trees that have yet to shed their leaves thus providing a large sail area for the winds. More to follow, if I keep power.

Hi Wayne
.......and your closer than I. Moncton is getting 120kmp/h now and the rain is coming in sideways!! Lots of trees here still have their leaves too but none near me. I put the cars out for a wash!! regards Darrell *I've been singing "The First Noel" to my wife and kids but they just look at me funny (or at least continue to). |

at Yass
Well down under we finally had some dam good rain, a little late for some of the crops and hay country but good for the native grasses. We managed to get 73mm over the last 3 days and the creeks are running again even if it's only for a couple of days we will take what we can get.

Powers Back
Clear blue skies, mild (10C) temps, 8kph breeze, Nice afternoon.
0600 this morning we had a real howler happening, with most of the Province blacked out, branches, trees, and power lines down all over the place. Power crews imported from New Brunswick, Quebec and Maine hope to have all the lights on by 2330 Tue ni. Hopefully the temps will stay on the plus side. All-round interesting weather night

a bit windy today
what cow of a day
the wind came up this morning and later in the day came the dust, some of the worst dust we've had for many years coming from the west. Max |

Max Easter Sunday and Monday we got 5 inches of rain here at my place in Gympie. Other nearby areas got up to 9 inches in a few hours with flash flooding widespread around the whole area. One of two bridges linking Gympie across the Mary River is submerged and the river peaked last night at a little over 14 metres high, not quite enough to flood the old main Street and business centre.

Rain
When I drove into Sydney on Monday I had to drive through the heaviest rain I'd ever seen - something like 70mm in an hour. Flash flooding all over the place.

rain
The dust storm settled and now we've had the best autumn rain for years, having had over 100mm so far this month, the temp had dropped being only 8 degrees yesterday.

75mm in the last four days, 125mm for the month. The little creek past my house is flowing and I have one and a half tanks of rain water so I can stop carting water for a couple of weeks.

It's true! Going to Corowa last year on the back roads (Not scouting for old trucks, Officer!), I was stalked for 5km by a mini downpour that featured the odd zap of lightning. The pic didn't look anywhere as good as the real thing:

And to prove that back roads are never any use for finding anything of worth, all I found was this rusty Grain Trailer (which bears a resemblance to a C15A)! No chance of picking it up cheap, as it's likely to get a workout this year. The good rains are leading to forecasts of the best Winter grain crop in the past 5 years.

What a waste
the old house tank was past it's use by date so the boys and I started to dismantle it. We have the roof off and half the panes unbolted (50 bots per join ).I have to dig down another 600 mm so the new tank will fit under the pipe but the rain is a bit early to fill it.

Missed another 10mm but now we are ready to catch the lot. This tank is sealed so I wont find dead birds in it like I found in the bottom of the old one I didn't tell Vicki about that find

Reminds me of the time just after I got married (26 years ago) and we were living in a rural area in New Zealand. We decided to clean out the house tank and found the swallows had been nesting in it so we found rotten eggs, dead chicks and a dead possum that was quite ripe in the bottom and yes we were drinking it for a few months before hand and never got sick!

last night we got about an inch of rain but the forecast is for fine sunny days and cold nights for the next week or so. A return to Queenslands normal winter weather "Hooray"!!!! at long last as it has been an unusual wet time of late.

Finally no more water carting the pipe is in the ground from the cattle yards to my old pump house. I rebuilt an old twin diaphram pump that fits on the PTO of the tractor. It took 10 hours and 15 leters of diesel to pump 6000 galons of water across and fill both tanks. That shore beats carting 600 leters an hour on the ute.

Just my luck, pump the tanks full then get 9mm of rain overnight and it's still raining.
