If you carrier turns out to be a Canadian one built for Canada, then Bob Carrerie posted this picture previously. You may be able to put his arm up his back, a little, and have him copy it. A bit of "plasticine" fills in the numbers to make a blank plate.

Kevin. that caunter pattern is incorrect mind so dont use it.... you need to get in touch with Mike Starmer, there are two whole books just about the use of Caunter pattern. mine is still young enough (in war time) to have it but my grandads regiment were re forming in scotland when alamein etc was going on... then after 42 and alamein caunter was phased out and desert ZI pink was introduced. carriers look savage in caunter IMHO maybe some day after i have displayed mine in sicily colours i will number the hull correctly (and not 10829) and splash her up in caunter !

what colour are you doing the mortar ? that would be nice in desert base with black disruptive hint hint......just trying to get Shauns Mk1 the same so we can have a sicily campaign battle group

Richard, if you want the others to follow suit regarding the Sicilian campaign? Just put some cotton wool in your cheeks and make them an offer they can't refuse. Ron

also vol 1 carrier book has loads of caunter pics but i promise you.......you need to buy mikes book if you want to get it exactly right for its age. the pattern changed and had many different variations of colours used including different shades of green to slate, brown, blue, and sand etc etc

Default cam cover removed.

Hi, The cam drivers cover is held by two countersunk bolts which use the same holes as the bottom cam plate cover. There is a retaining plate (pretty rusted out) which bolts to the front with 1/4 bolts which I have removed but are tacked welded to the cover, this retaining plate must clamp the canvas in place.

Default carrier markings

Hi, This was painted on the side of the early canandian carrier, have asked a few people, seems C.S.R. could stand for Canadian Scottish Regiment.

Seems it could say this, there may be more letters before the 'B' and the CT number could be wrong.

B/M.G./C.S.R.
CT
434405

can anyone help?.

Kevin.

Shaun, Yes thats the number we thought was there, but after looking at the photo's in photoshop and playing around with the pics, changing the tint, colour, sharpness etc, it could be this but with the 4 on the end.

too many didgits for an early CT number, maybe not a CT number?.

What about the possibility that the number has been overlaid by the same number, and can see some digits of both. Maybe its CTL 134405. There is a block of numbers not listed in Nigel's vol.I on page 293 there are 3 lots of numbers together that say "see notes" this lot of numbers slot in there.
None of this applies if this number is too high for the guard mounted data plate, which I suspect is only a four digit "T"number.

Default hull blastered

Hi, The Mk1 1940 hull is back from the blasters and in zinc primer, will give it another coat tomorrow and move it to another garage, the plan is to rebuild it in parallel with the mortar carrier with the exhaust system going in first, looking for a drivers side cast exhaust hull through plate if anyone has one to trade. Will pick up the test exhaust sysem this week and fit to confirm its correct before making 3 more sets for those who expressed an interest.

well done Kevin , i think Marks lorry has moved more carriers than any other lorry out there now. He was collecting mine this time last year and he has been moving moving carriers for me for years.

This machine looks to be in good order, do you have all the numbers etc for it. looking forward to getting eyes on.

very nice carrier you've got yourself there kev, good on yer !
i like the fact that you didn't tell the wife about it. i did the same thing a couple of months back when i bought a t16, but i made the mistake of telling my little lad and he grassed me up to his mum who wasn't best pleased !!! so probably best to keep it schtum.

all the best

Shaun, No numbers yet, only an unconfirmed lower hull number, will look on the drivers plate after christmas and look for other markings, the track on this one is very good, just got it unloaded before dark and covered over, lots of extra goodies inside including some t16 engine panels up for trade!.

A lovely basis for a restoration, did it come over from Canada recently or has it been in the uk since the war?
NB: just watched the video so I have my answer!

Hi, Latest Carrier back from the blasters Mk1 1941, this is one of the buried carriers under 'Buried Mk 1 Bren carrier restoration' thread and the one which arrived Christmas last year, got to put on a couple more undercoats then a top coat of Light Stone before putting it in storage.

Picture added of this carrier as found!.

I realize this is a bit of an older post, but your number could well be correct. It is the earlier Canadian DND style of numbering, used domestically until the 42/43 time period. The first two digits (42) are the year, the 1 is on all the DND numbers assigned, and the remaining digits (can be anywhere from one to for digits) are assigned to that particular vehicle.

There should have been periods located inside the number: 41.1.4045

As near as I can tell, by reviewing some local war diaries, the numbers seem to have been assigned regionally, as opposed to at the factory.

When the system changed later, the new style numbering was painted over top of the earlier numbers.

Default Cast brass plate....

From the top of this page......

Beautiful heavy cast plate....... but it is not mine..... boohoo.

That plate is about 3/16 thick and bolted on the front fender of a MK I
I beleive........ which belongs to Kirk Armitage living just outside of Ottawa.

Now we could raid is place but he keeps wild bulls ..... the breeding kinds with the jewels attached .....rooming around the equipment shed.

He was kind enough to give us a tour a couple of years ago.

In fact he just recently listed some of his carriers for sale on MLU.....

Doug..... sorry I could not be more helpful.
