Registering vehicles in the UK
There is an interesting thread on this forum at the moment regarding an owner who is being told he cannot register his vehicle in the UK because it is over 2.5 metre wide.
The DVLA have been trying to enforce this rule unsuccessfully for years, but if the law has now changed which they are claiming, this will obviously affect the value of any vehicles not already registered in the UK. http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread...9902#post79902 |

Overwidth vehicles like the Staghound and Rogers trailer can only be registered on special license plates; you will have to ask permission every time you take it on the road. H.

In the UK we have always had access to classes under 'Construction and Use Regulations' which allow for greater widths. If these new rules are water tight nothing new will be registered. |

Are you suggesting the UK will no longer permit overwidth vehicles to be newly registered? Then what about construction equipment, cranes, etc.? Hanno

There will always be exemptions for certain specialist items of equipment, but the suggestion on the other forum is that in future there will only be a very limited number of classes which will permit vehicles over 2.5 metres, and the DVLA will be policing very strictly what goes into them. Hopefully this will prove to be incorrect. |

I don't know about Europe, but in North America every big truck on the road is over that width at 8.5 feet.
