736 Communication Squadron
The C42 Set I own came from this Squadron, which I think is/was based in Thunder Bay, Ontario. All the major components have a white '736' stencilled on them somewhere. In addition to the Squadron number being marked on the parts, there is also a white outlined triangle painted freehand near each number location. This is a mystery to me in so far as these triangles clearly relate to 736 Communication Squadron in some way, but the how and why escapes me.
Would the triangular outline represent 'Delta'? Possibly a Troop within the Squadron? Is it possible these identifications were applied to the C42 when it was embedded in another unit, along with the 736 Sqn personnel? Would these identifiers have been added to the equipment if 736 Sqn was involved in some large exercise/operation with other Communication Squadrons as a means of inventory control, and when it was over, the Squadron never bothered removing them? Any ideas gratefully received. David |

Any chance of some pictures to illustrate your request?

Regretfully, not at the moment. Computer in under repair and I have no clue on photo options with my other toys. Nothing fancy to the markings really, just a 1/4 inch wide paint brush, I suspect, making a triangular freehand line about one inch +/- per side.

I'm certain that 736 Sqn was based in Kingston co-located with an EW Sqn or am I confusing it with 763?

A quick google search shows Thunder Bay. It is now absorbed into 38 brigade.

Summers were a great time for lazier units to upgrade their kit from units that did keep their EIS up to snuff. Doors, seats, heaters etc would all get swapped. But fortunately radios were a serialised kit, so woudl go back to their respective units. Little things like junction boxes on the dashes were fair game though. Summer concentrations were the reason why you would see a unit's initials stencilled on everything from seats to spare tires to tool pouches to radios etc etc... |
