War Stories
We all have those stories told of old vets, interesting in their own rights but seldom jaw dropping.
I chatted for about an hour last week with one who was one of six who was tasked with guarding Kurt Meyer. Wow, is all I have...

Chris: You are one very lucky fellow to have had that chat.
Did you record the conversation or at least write it down? If you did, I'd appreciate a copy for my library. Kurt Meyer's activities as both Regimental Commander of 25 Panzer Grenadier Regiment, then Divisional Commander of 12 SS Hitler Youth Division, got me interested after visiting l'Abbay d' Ardenne during a battlefield tour. This was where, on his orders, a total of 20 Canadian prisoners of war were murdered. I have 11 books on the subject including a transcript of the trial. I'm thinking that the vet that you spoke with would have been in the Winnipeg Rifles since Meyer was in that unit's custody during the trial. Did the vet venture any opinion about the decision of the court and the subsequent commutation?
