Linkage pins !
Folks, I have a number of linkage pins which need replaced, what have people been making them out of in the past ? Do they need to be a high carbon steel ? Can HT steel nut and shouldered bolt be used ?
I have a few that I am missing. Finally, I am also missing a nut from one of the floor bell cranks, can anyone tell me what the thread size is etc so I can make or order a new one..

The pins are 7/16 Clevis pins and are available over here new from vintage tractor spares outlets. They sometimes pop up on eBay which may be easier. New ones sometimes have a taller head but you can turn them down.
I can let you know the nut size this evening when I get home. It's a bsf thread, 5/8 perhaps??? Confirmation later. |

My guess 5/8" BSF, but not so sure of the size. Definately BSF though. I think the nut locks down on a washer, which is stopped on the shoulder of the stub. This should let the bellcrank move freely.Take one of the other nuts, to the bolt shop along with the stub it screws onto. The nut will need to be thinned unless you can buy a thin one.
Yes you can make your clevis pins from high tensile bolts. For your carrier you need thin flat washers, a(close and) small split pin hole, and not much meat on the clevis pin, past the split pin hole. there is very little clearance at the bottom end of them.

i used 12mm clevis pins and threaded the bar accordingly on my t16, easily available and cheap.

Cheers I might just do that.. I had a very questionable CTL1737 clevis which I have decided not to use for safety reasons, so if anyone has a spare they wish to sell, please get in touch !

Rich, threaded rod comes as free cutting mild steel, and high tensile.
The free cutting mild steel is easy to cut because it has a higher percentage of lead, which makes it weaker than mild steel. Good engineering supply outlets would be able to supply clevis pins even if you have to "port and polish" them. Don't use threaded rod please. I might be riding in your carrier!

Hahahhaa I was going to use HT shouldered bolts, I only need four for the front linkage system, two for the short brake rods that meet with the bell cranks, then the two longer pins that go through the main linkage gubbins at the base of the steering column ( these are re longest pins)
Finally four of the slightly narrower gauge pins that go in the back end clevis and bell cranks on the back of the brake drums

Type "7/16 clevis pin" in the search box on ebay and take your choice.

The nut you need is 5/8 bsf, half nut. Originals are wider and shallower than modern ones.
