Clive you have the original of that postcard.....????
Does it have better resolution/details...? seems like early 8cwt in 2 wheel drive and no air vents in the nose portion. Bob C

Close up. I have over 3,000 images in my CMP folder and it took some time to find it. I have cropped the image to show the lead vehicle.

Thanks Clive....
Now for my comments and questions...
First truck is a C8 the other 3 seem to be Ford F15a followed by FGT.... On the pass plate they all have 17 ...... would that be the convoy number...... They all seem to have "blank" bridge plates.... First truck has RD on the grill guard..... Radio Truck perhaps....? the following truck has M3... any meaning??? Interesting to see how they have the tarp rolled up on the the F15a...... must have been a warm Summer day..... Anybody care to decide what province/year the license plate is/from...... To bad I can't make out the lettering on the door... ...similar to other period pictures that have Regt de Chaud Cheers Bob C

Bob
While it is hard to see what 2 colours the 17 is on, I would almost think they are the artillery markings 17 would indicate the unit within the brigade. The RD could indicate the battery commander of the 4th Battery. However I am not sure the markings were completely standardized at the time this photo may have been taken. Can anyone decipher the unit markings on the top line of the door? |

Are those original tires? I have never seen that tread pattern before.

Sand tyres David, your local school may have had a Fergy tractor with them on, or the local golf course (but a real military vehicle guy probably shouldn't know that)
I have a 9.00 x 16 on a WC Dodge rim in that pattern, made in the Republik of Suid Afrika. I think they were used by the LRDG once they started getting good gear.
