Default supacats in the C.F.

hi all and happy newyears!!!

just before christmas, dnd released several supacat 6x6 vehicles in ontario. i wasn't aware at the time that the C.F. used the vehicle at all, as i had never seen one in my travels, or even a pic of one in canadian service. some internet research revealed many facts about the vehicle along with specifications, but i do have a few questions about them, that i hope someone out there in mlu land can answer.

(1) when did dnd purchase the supacat, how many, contract number?

(2) where there any canadian mods, or were they as manufactured in the u.k.?

(3) what did the C.F. use them for?

(4) if pics exist of them in canadian service, i would like to see them if possible.

please see attached pic of an ex canadian supacat( as shown on icangroup.ca), and cheers!!

I have only ever come across one reference to the use of Supacats in the CF, this was the purchase of 6 of these for use by the CF DART (Disaster Assistance and Relief Team) where they were bought because they were easily air-transported and they were used as runabouts.

thanks for the replies

al, i'm not sure what the selling price was.

clive, they would be a very useful vehicle for the dart, and i'm sure for several other duties. when the auction was going on they had at least 25 listed with their special trailers. i figure they may have bought some perhaps in the 80's as the supacat has been around in one form or another since 1982.

Default Supacat

Hi,

I sent a message to Rideau Auctions and received this reply.

"The results will be going on the web site this week, but the non runners sold for around $5000. and the runners sold for $10000 & up."

Default Ex CF Supacat

we were lucky enough to buy one of them and 3 of the trailers and a bunch of spares and odds and sods including the track kit and an original manual.

very capable machine and a joy to operate not so much of a joy to maintain.

We have had ours out and about since acquiring it and have been to Coe Hill with it last year.

If you want more info email me

Robin
