Default Bren 100 Rd Magazine - Chest Equipment

Not once in my lifetiime have I looked at Military collections of any kind. My interests have been focused over the last ten years to steam power and boats.

Last saturday I attended an auction and purchased some wooden military boxes. I was thinking of cleaning them up and using them for general cargo boxes on a steamboat I am building.

However, on visiting your site, I see that there is great interest in antique military vehicles. I have always been fascinated by the Bren Carrier. I am sure that these boxes would add to any collection.

Therefore, I am including pictures of one of the chests to see if any reader close to Ottawa, Canada would be interested in such an item.

Of interest, is packing slip found in one of the boxes. It is dated 10-23-43. The boxes are also stamped with the C Arrowhead that was found on Canadian military items.

The photos really speak for themselves.

Guy

I would be interested in that packing note. Right from Kalvinator. This was the same company that made the sten mags for Canada as well.

Very nice boxes. Most of them that I have ever found had all the internal dividers removed. The real find would be the original contents of the boxes.

I know someone who did find exactly that - a full box of magazines still in the original grease. I know this because they were stored in my basement for almost two years...

Hi Guy - welcome to our forum. Thank goodness there are still people around like you that think outside their square. Whilst the boxes probably would have looked good on your steamboat, that is not where they should be. By advertising them in the proper forum these boxes will end up where they should be, in a military context. And who knows, one of our family may have some steamboat bits lying around that could move your way. Lets throw that up as a challenge.

I picked up this same crate from the trucking company's dock, whilst the consignee was occupied out-of-Province.

This message directed to: Cletrac.....Eston ,Saskatchewan
Geoff Winnington-Ball....Toronto, Ontario
Rob Love..... Shilo, Manitoba

Info: clive.... aka: Service Pub..... Ottawa.

I have reviewed the replies and re-examined the chests. I have tallied my expenses in relation to the auction prices I paid and have come to the following calculations.

Cletrac can get 2 boxes with rope handles at $20.00 each.

Geoff Winnington-Ball can get 2 boxes with web handles at $20.00 each.

Rob Love of Shilo, Manitoba can get the packing slip for $5.00 (Which I will mail out to you)

I can deliver or have Clive (Service Pub) pick up and store the chests.

Please Email me at boguydi@videotron.ca to finalyze these transactions if all is satisfactory.

I do hope that this is helpful to some of you collectors.

Guy

Default Mo Boxes

Gents,

For those that need Bren self propelled storage boxes, I have 3 up for grabs.

I will be happy to deliver them to CC7 if that helps.

Give me a PM if interested.

Stewart

PS - the 6-pounder shell could go too, but I will sit on the 2 gallons cans a bit longer.

Guy, that's ok, but I'd like a photocopy of that packing slip please?

BTW, I own MAPLE LEAF UP, and no, there's no problem with advertising this type of "merchandise" on MLU. As you can gather, the interest is always there.

I'll email you presently for payment arrangements, and Clive for transportation & storage.

Thanks!

Geoff (aka 'Jif')

Guy, I'll send you a cheque tomorrow. You can send mine freight collect on the bus. That's as cheap a method as any and we don't have to calculate shipping costs. I'll enclose the shipping address with the cheque. I'd like a photocopy of the paperwork too.
Thanks,
Dave

Default chest hardware

To add grist to the mill, the construction method of those chests and the hardware are 100% identical to CNo.7 .22 rifle chests, and pretty close to No.4(T) sniper rifle chests. The screws will be straight slot, not Robertson. If you look at a bottom corner (lower left I think), there will be a stamped marking. It will be MCV or such. There is another marking for a company in Haileybury, Ontario. Some rifle chests have two markings; the maker and a gratuitous LB for Long Branch. We've gone around the block a few times on this subject with the No.4 Lee Enfield forums I haunt.

If someone needs to rebuild or duplicate a chest, I have leftover hardware from a salvage job I did ...

Guy, I'd like to echo Bob's post and thank you for considering the historical value represented by the appropriate use of those boxes and allowing our members the opportunity to purchase them.

P.S., any left?

Thanks! Derek.

Default Steam guy...........

...is that a literal translation of "Guyvapeur"

Are you limited to steam only or also interested in older make and break one cylinder engines....??? how about as vertical 4 hp NOVO circa WW I....?

Bet the NOVO would look good in a repro launch...low rpm but lots of torque.

Send me a PM if you wish to talk.

****You are not making this easy for me. Tempting me with some old iron....the kind of thing that sets a man's mind wandering about possibilities.

I drive through Hammond every day on a bus run.... I shop at the Rona...

I'll get back to you.
