I see you trans lid does not have the two cast lugs on the left side.
Just to let you know the the Aust. carriers have a bracket with a 90 degree bend at the bottom, that picks up on two of the bolts that hold the lid on.
I can post a picture if you like. Saves you finding the carrier g/box lid.

Hi Lynn,

I know. My Carrier is a running example. There is a fabricated support that goes under a couple of the lid bolts on the correct side. It is not on there in the picture. We had the engine and gearbox out for some major repairs when I took the picture.

This picture will show how it is fitted but not very clear.

One member allready asked for more detailed pictures as he also has to fabricate these parts. If Shaun does not mind I will put them in his thread next weekend. Shaun?

Cheers,

For the other guys here is a picture of it. The small item is the sprung loaded reverse detent (they dont have a gate or a lock out) for the riveted carrier the top would be cut off leaving only two bolt holes.

things are moving steadly on, the new springs arrived yesterday but the inner ones were wrong so after a phone call this morning they are now making some more the correct size. I have over hauled all the wheels, bearing and seals etc so now the first wheels are going back on.

I have had the engine apart, fitted a new inlet valve and guide. It has had a very good wash and inspection, and im glad to say there is no wear in the engine. it has been painted in British army rebuild blue/green (BS 101).

The gearbox is aslo like new ( Richie was a bit envious when he looked inside it the other day) so just need to fit the carrier adaptor parts to the box and its ready to fit.

So hopefully this time next week it will be sitting on its wheels and the engine and gearbox in. Lets see if work gets in the way !!

Lynn, I had a fan extention but some one had robbed the pulley from it in the distant past. I borrowed a pattern from Kevin and turned one up. I turnned the rubber drive insert out of a nylon bush.

Now the back axle has been stripped , repaired and assembled. The Pinion bearings were in a very poor state so they have been replaced, the diff had a wash and inspection and its not in a bad shape. Managed to get the bearings next day so now its all back together and fitted. i had to get the gear box adaptor plate made ( i have one somewhere in a safe place along with the splinned conector but do you think i can find it !!! Bl**dy disapearing carrier parts ! ) Managed to get a new one from Dirk (very good speedy service). - then new brake linings, new hub bearings and seals and all of a sudden the axle is fitted --See photos.

Default New Springs

The new springs (inners and outers) fitted perfectly. They compressed about the same as the original ones i have fitted. I would highly recommend the company to anybody, just remember its a 4 week turn around from order date. I have post a link to the company a couple of post back on this thread.
so now the carrier has all its suspenion and wheels etc on, now time to start track bashing ! yuk - i feel some finger nipping comming up !!!!!

Excelent stuff Shaun... glad the fenders were to your liking... With my project i did not rebuild the axle which i fear may have been a mistake... it was full of oil when i took it off and everything seemed nice and smooth not nasty grinding etc....time will tell i guess. yours is coming along at lightening speed and she looks great... it appears now there are a good few Mk1's in the UK now

Im sure yours will soon be flying together Richie. i just happen to be in one of those lucky lines of work that gives me the time. Lets just say the oil that came out of my axle was not in a good state so it had to be stripped.

Any way the weather was nice today so it was "Track bashing time !" ( also know as finger nipping , only got one today so not to bad ). Well thats the tracks on now to get the engine run up - then the wiring (YUK i hate that bit of a resto )

Default I'm hoping ....

... for a 21st December picture to show how it has improved in a year.

Don't suppose it'll be driving by then?

gordons post made me go back to the first page and look at how it was less than a year ago, i'm amazed at what a great job you've done since you yanked it out of that hedge, especially when you consider how much was missing. good on yer ! another carrier saved for posterity.

all the best

Default Thats spot on

Well done Shaun, I'm sure you'll do it.

We need folk like you bringing down the average rebuild time - I've been working on some of my stuff for 20 years, but no rush, eh?

In case you find the name vaguely familiar, I was at Beltring years back with Geoff and Sean Spencer from Canada, and was with the other Sean when he was talking carrier with you. Like Sean I'm a snow stuff person, but Sean has snow stuff and a carrier, of course.

Looking forward to pic on 21st. I'm sure there's no reason to take it back ( loads of miles? ) and park it beside the bit of hedge, but that would be an even nicer touch....

BTW, your Daimler Mk1 was never in Scotland, was it? I have a bit of history on a pair, a Mk1 and Mk 2, that were in Scotland 25 years back, the Mk1 went to the Cavern collection and I lost track of it after that.

Hi Gordon,
blimy you have a good memory , that was Beltring a few years ago ( yes i do remember you ) may be catch you at Beltring this year ? I got the Daimler MK1 from down south . Although who owned it did move to your fine part of our Island. But im sure the car never went that far north or west to Wales. The man you need to email is a mate of mine called Singe Ager , have a look at his website http://daimler-fighting-vehicles.co.uk .

It would be lovely to drive the carrier to the field it came from but it will be a tad to far for this stage of running. I am still in regular contact with the guys i got it off , keeping them posted on the progress.

Default Thanks Shaun

I'll give that site a look, ta.

It was good to meet everyone that once, since I haven't seen the other Sean, Hanno, you, and the like since then, and Geoff, of course, is sadly no longer around except in spirit.

I'm sure that some time you are going to park it next to the hedge and do a 'before and after' but no rush. Still an amazing job.

Later - had a look at the site - looks like he has the Mk1 I got running again - fired him off an e-mail - result all round.
