Gentlemen

I would not necessarily dismiss the possibilty of these vehicles serving in the Polish Armoured Division on the basis that of no photographs exist or veterans cannot remember using them.

I have close connects with the 43rd Recce OCA and when Peters article first appeared it rasied a lot of questions. Veterans who had previously denied using certain vehicles when challenged further, changed their minds, and further evidence later came to light. When I pointed out the presence of Wasp and Windsor Carrier's in a regimental photograph, every one had forgotten using them.

Another 43rd classic is the well known Autocar article when the journalist recalls riding in a Morris LRC belong to the Recce HQ of a well known West Country Division. He had just road tested a Morris for Autocar so he should have known the difference, but both Peters article and the veterans deny this.

Units throughout the NW Europe campaign acquired vehicles which they did not have entitlement to, and immeadiately after the war when the Poles probably got these vehicles, strange things did happen.

I had enough problems trying to get still serving soldiers in my ex-regiment to rember what markings they used to have on their Saladins.

Hi Hanno,

Great pictures, neither I knew about foxes in Holland, you'll always see those humber mk4 on liberation pics etc.

We are busy to recreate a picture like those Hanno, we aren't far from driving to the parades in it's fresh paint!!!

Where will you be with your F15A? Probably Apeldoorn as well?

regards,

Stefan

Hi James;

The Hague, 8 May 45 - they are possibly from the 4th Reconnaissance Regiment (4th Princess Louise Dragoon Guards), C.A.C. (1st Cdn Inf Div - Recce Regt).

On the 8th, 3rd Canadian Infantry Brigade (R22eR; CYR; WNSR) entered The Hague, along with other elements of the 1st Cdn Inf Div.

Cheers

Hi Mark

What a funny coincidence for the 4th, to have lost their Foxes in Italy and then to use them again in Holland almost a year later!

Hanno, I was always hoping to see a picture of a Fox in Holland
during the liberation days, Mei 1945.

Groeten, Dirk

Dirk, these are the first pictures I have seen of Foxes in Holland. Exiting stuff, isn't it?

Below is a Humber Mk IV, pictured on 8 May in The Hague as well.

Hi Hanno;

It belongs to the British 49th Reconnaissance Regiment (49th (West Riding) Infantry Division), which is interesting, because according to their history, they were not in The Hague on 8 May, 45, their Squadrons being elsewhere. I'll dig out their locations for 8 May and post them.

Cheers

"C" Sqn - two Troops Baarn and two Troops Amersfoort

Taskings: 7 to 12 May

- 49th (West Riding) Infantry Division - disarming of three German Divisions holding the 'Grebbe Line' - based on Hilversum and Utrecht

- 1st Canadian Infantry Division - disarming the German Coastal Divisions - based on The Hague and Rotterdam

Cheers

Bardia again, but she is now wrongly identified!
